There’s an unspoken tension on the streets of Vesper. Whilst the Senate hasn’t made any official announcement about Soulless and the like, there’s a massive army been formed and a few altercations between Vesper and Dogwood along the banks of the James River. People are worried and well they should be.
If things go wrong, the two cities will be at war. A thing that hasn’t occurred for seventy years. A thing that many don’t want to happen, though there are a few who think they might profit from it.
For Kaji and Slaine though, it’s a real thing and they’re readying themselves to head into Richmond to deal with the problem. But, there’s still the matter of making sure they’ve enough money to live on. More so for Kaji than Slaine. The small redheaded Mystic has taken the accidental necromancer into the Forum, the expanse of area outside the Government buildings. It’s there that ‘want ads’ are often posted – in pictograms and writing. Slaines standing before one of the noticeboards reading an ad…
And by reading, it’s so and it’s painful.
“Wan… ted… Wiz… ard to es…. cort” Very slow and very painful as she sounds out each syllable. Getting more wrong than right.
Megana strolls up behind them in a casual manner. The dark natured Shifter is no longer pregnant but her natural curves and swells have been slightly enhanced by the experience and she’s wearing a new dress to flatter that figure. A tight black short sleeved top with a bow in the center of her bosom, and a flowing skirt that flares out as she walks colored and patterned to mimic the wings of a butterfly. She wears white leather boots and ruby hilted silver daggers are attached to each side.
Megana pauses behind Slaine and Kaji and winces painfully as she listens but then brightens a bit. It’s progress and she’s proud of the Mystic. The leashed imp trotting along at her side opens his mouth to say something but quickly shuts up when Meg glares down and hisses something foul sounding in his own tongue. Then she looks back up and slings an around Kaji, the motion coming naturally now. Less natural and much more awkwardly she attempts the same with Slaine after looping the end of the leash over one hand.
Perched on Slaine’s shoulder, Miss Frizz leans forward just a little bit to try and make sense of the bulletins. But not even the pictograms really hold much information for her. At Meg’s hissing words, she flinches just enough for Slaine to feel and turns to look behind them…. and then squeaks in surprise and presses herself to the redhead’s neck to avoid Meg’s slinging an arm in greeting.
Cash comes and goes so fast. While Kaji had gotten paid a rather nice sum for helping stop the cultists that the Justicars had been having him track, he’d already invested a bit of it in getting some new clothes and gear, so Megana’s not the only one with some new threads. You know, typical gaming mentality. At least he’s not so readily picked out from the locals at a glance. And although he sports the same jacket, he’s had it lined with a darker material, reversible. …it seemed like a bit of a waste to throw out that robe he’d gotten from Bea.
Hands in his pockets, Kaji stands beside Slaine, smiling patiently as the mystic sounds out the words. While she’s struggled with the first few words he’s already read over the posting a several times, lips pursed thoughtfully. “Twenty gold sounds like a lot for an escort job, huh?”
He glances over his shoulder as Megana comes up behind them, grinning at her as she throws an arm over his shoulder. He leans in to give her a quick hug. “Heya Megu!”
“Is that how much they are offering?” Slaine looks up at Kaji, sighing faintly as she realizes he’s already read the whole advertisement “Where do they want the escort t—–”
She squeaks, not nearly as well as Miss Frizz, when Meg slings her arm over her shoulder “Megana …” Half Pint knows that Meg is trying to be friendly, but the redhead herself doesn’t have that many people she lets close.
“Twenty gold cash does sound like a lot … what does the rest of the job say?” she asks Kaji.
Around them, the crowd ebbs and flows. This time of day most adventuring groups are out and about, but Vesper is still a busy city. “That’s the fourth group of D-Bee’s they’ve bought in this month…” a tall, equine looking being is saying to another. Both are in robes from the Restorium. “… found in their settlements, sick as anything…”
Megana smiles at Kaji and hugs back before turning and noticing Miss Frizz. “Ooops. Sorry there. I didn’t see you.” She’s glad she didn’t knock her down. ‘Gotta remember to check for her.’ Meg thinks. Lli Chibt eyes Miss Frizz with interest but behaves himself for the moment at least.
Meg smiles hesitantly at Slaine and lets her arm drop to her side. She’s so not good at this kind of thing but she’s making an effort to be better. Her ears catch the healers words and a slight frown creases her features. Sick as in plague or disease or sick as in soul stolen? The Shifter wonders. It might explain the high pay though. “Do you guys need money this badly? I’ve got some savings…” She’s eyeing the rest of the notices, scanning the words quickly with an increasingly thoughtful expression, some idea beginning to form in the back of her mind but she tucks it away for later when things are quiet to consider.
Suss considers biting Meg — just a little — to remind her to be a bit more observant, but then decides it’s not worth the carrying on that it would likely cause. Besides, Meg just apologized. She does catch that snippet of passing conversation that Meg comments on, but then carefully turns on Slaine’s shoulder to face the bulletins again. She hopes she didn’t scratch her friend just now.
<~ Would it hurt to ask? If it’s that good a payment, the people requesting should be able to say why… right? ~>
“You had the first part. Seems they’re looking specifically for a wizard to escort someone to Clearwater.” Kaji frowns a bit, taking a moment to recall why the name was familiar. That’s about near the place where that whole mess with the blood mages had started, wasn’t it? “I guess it wouldn’t hurt to ask though, Miss Suss. Maybe they have good reason, and when it comes to ads, it figures they’d only post enough to get someone’s attention.”
Glancing at Megana, he smiles wryly. “It’s not so much needing money badly as it is just wanting to be able to make sure there’s some kind of buffer. I don’t want to have to keep relying on people to cover for me- I mean, I appreciate it, don’t get me wrong! But…” He’s stuck here, so he needs to figure out how to make a living. His friends have already done so much, but he knows he has to pull his own weight too. …and then there’s the matter of Whisper. As much as Kaji doesn’t want to admit it, the man’s words have gotten under his skin.
Absently he casts a look at the passing figures in robes, head tilting before he looks back at the others.
“Clearwater? Mmmmm,” Slaine frowns. “That’s not part of Vesper but I know we would like it to be. There’s ’bout twenty thousand live there, if I remember righ’. Mostly trapper and farmers though, there’s some Vesper magi there studyin’ the D-Shiftin’ mountains.”
“We could ask, Miss Frizz but it wouldn’ look good. I’d say it’s probably a high rankin’ official or some such and with the demon attacks coming from the mountains, they’re be extra careful of the journey.”
Slaine barely pays any attention to the D-Bee’s as they wander by and the equine creatures continue to clip clop past them. Meg will hear, as their conversation fades, “… But each group with a different infection or sickness, even if the symptons are similar….” Whatever else is said is lost in the crowd and whilst it sounds serious, the D-Bee’s discussing it seem more bewildered than worried. More like a medical oddity.
“We could ask, but we coul’ jus’ go offer our services and find out the story when we do. We can still no once we know more…” she shakes her in Megana’s direction “Don’ really need the money, no’ with my involvement in the Salvage business but payin’ Sterlin’ and Leo for the work they did up on Lovers Lane, has put a dint in my savin’s. With any luck, the soulless thing will be over soon and we’ll both lookin’ for somethin’ to do.”
Megana eyes Kaji for a long moment. He makes sense but she has the feeling he might be holding something back. She’s also glad Miss Frizz didn’t bite her. She’d half expected it but figured it’d be deserved for startling her.
Megana turns to watch the healers until the pass from view and shakes her head a bit then refocuses on Slaine. “Hm. I’ve gotta figure out what I’m gonna do now too. Aside from movin’ here. I don’t want or need to go back to the Academy an all the plans I had afore are..” Her expression turns bitter for a moment but Meg snuggles close to Kaji and manages a smile. “Well. I’ll figure it out. We all will. And Slaine and the little Miss are right, it won’t hurt to go talk to them. If you don’t mind an extra coupla hands we’re not doing anything right now.”
“Uh! Hey! Who’s we? You got a turd in your pocket?? Cuz I got a hot date with that adronowhatsit waiter back at the Inn! I’m not goin’ on any mystery job that sounds more sketchy than that peddler sellin’ Diamond dil-” “Lli Chibt!” Meg scowls down and interrupts her familiar. “Uuuughhh. I better get to stomp some people for this, Boss. Seriously. You owe me big time.” Meg sighs. “Yeah yeah love you long time. I know.” Lli Chibt grins and poses in what he thinks is very sexy manner. Really he just looks like a chunky little cuddlemunch but that is probably a thing no one should say in his hearing.
As the others discuss the possibility of this job and what all it could entail, Suss carefully scoots her way off of Slaine’s shoulder and into a pocket to curl up and nap. She’s been sleeping a lot more than usual of late, since she helped Kaji ‘clean’ a house.
Kaji supposes Slaine’s got a good point, but he’s not sure he fully agrees. “Whether it looks good or not, I think it’s only fair knowing what we’d be getting into, especially if it’s dangerous work.”
He catches Megana looking at him, blinking before he offers a reassuring smile. Well, he hopes it’s reassuring, anyway. “I was wondering about taking formal classes at the Academy or something, myself,” he admits. “How does someone get in? Can they just enroll or something..?” The reasons of concern that he’d given Bea had been valid and true, and now that he’d gotten his informal tutor arrested, well, perhaps it’s time to try learning from some more proper teachers. …that weren’t trying to summon aliens into their world.
“Other than that, I…really haven’t thought about what all I should be doing. I figured the present needs more focus at the moment.” The present had enough headaches to deal with.
He watches as Miss Frizz slips off to nap, hoping the little mouse is all right. Casting a look between Megana and Slaine, he smiles again, somewhat crookedly. “I wouldn’t mind the extra company though. And it’s not like this ad specifies how many escorts they’re looking for.” He laughs a little at Lli Chibt’s input. Thus far he hadn’t yet seen just how useful the little guy could be, but Meg had to keep him around for some reason. …and what even is that pose?
Lli Chibt gets a flat look from Half Pint before she flatly ignores him. The Mystic really doesn’t like imps but for those who have yet to meet K’nert, the reason would be lost on them.
“I’m sayin’ we do jus’ that. Go talk to the person who’s put the job up. Find out more abou’ it an’ then decide. Do ye have the contact details?”
If Meg and Kaji wanted to, they could head over right now. The address is in one of the best parts of the city – that’s got to be reassuring to begin with, doesn’t it?
“Generally, advertisements like that specifies the rate and the group that applies agrees to split the fee amongst itself. With four of us, includin’ Miss Frizz, it’s 5 gold cash each. That’s not bad, really.” Well, it might not be.
“There’s always contract work, Megana.” Slaine gestures around the forum “People always need help when they venture out. Either as hired magical muscle or to help investigate somethin’. It’s good money for the most part and not always dangerous.”
As to the Academy, Slaine’s green eyes – the coloring slowly lightening back to the bright emerald they once were – land on Kaji. “Ye need to be able to pay the tuition. It’s an exclusive school and Wizards, in general, guard their secrets well. Why don’ ye go talk to Ingerhast though, she likes ye and migh’ be persuaded to put in a good word for ye…” There’s the faintest of smirks and Slaine winks at the youth – The Spider-Prof had said Kaji was rather delicious.
Megana brightens at Kaji’s reassurance he wouldn’t mind her company and then looks to Slaine. The Shifter smiles as Miss Frizz goes in for a nap and then bends over and scoops up Lli Chibt, putting him on her hip like a toddler for a moment before the imp wriggles free and scampers around to ride on her shoulders.
“Sometimes, they take people at a discount or a scholarship if they are really talented and someone like Ingerhast takes a liking to them. It’s how I got in. Not through her, but someone else. But if we hafta I’ll pay it. You need good teaching. I’ve got enough to start you there I think. Been saving for awhile and I’ve got some rare bits of this and that I could sell.” Before he can protest Meg continues. “You’re my family. I’m not gonna use the money for what I intended now, better it goes to something useful and good. Plus the Academy is amazing and I think it’d be good for you. It’d be like.. an investment in both our futures. Maybe we can open up some kinda business together later. But you need teaching.”
Pulling out a notepad from his jacket pocket, Kaji nods at Slaine, jotting down the info on the ad. “I’m not exactly sure where this is at, but I’ve got an idea anyway,” he says, showing Megana the address he’d written down. Nice as the area might be, he’s still wary.
Looking at the mystic, he holds back a sigh, since he’d figured as much when it came to getting into the Academy. Mention if Ingerhast has him smiling lopsidedly. “Think she’d put in the favor since I put up with being stuck in her web search spell?”
He looks at Megana as she starts talking about offering to help pay for, mouth opening, then closing as she cuts him off. Instead, he looks down, but not because he’s upset about it. Grinning a bit, he nods. “That sounds like it could be cool. -I’ll still have to make it up to you though. But because I want to, okay?”
“They don’ do discounts.” Slaine says bluntly before sighing at Meg in apology. “Sorry. They migh‘ do a scholarship but it would be on a return of service type agreemen’. I wasn’ jokin’ when I said they guarded their magic carefully.” beat “It’s the same with gettin’ access to their resources. Everyone has to have somethin’ of value to them…”
Which might make them both wonder how Slaine has swung it. The access to the rarest of sections in the Academy.
Guiding the little group, assuming Lli Chibt will follow Megana, Slaine leads them through the streets of Vesper. The houses here are nice – well constructed, well appointed, each with a fence and gate out the front. The whole area reeks of distinction and money.
It’s not long before they arrive at the address Kaji’s noted, the gate is open and the door’s right there … there’s a lion headed knocker right in the middle of it.
“I don’ see why she wouldn’.” Slaine answers Kaji quietly “Maybe she’ll make ye an offer. Ye’re skills are definitely of interest to her and the others. Remember that when ye come to negotiate.” beat “We’re here…”
Lli Chibt stays on his Mistress’s shoulders occupied with watching the crowds as Meg is occupied with her own thoughts after listening to Slaine. It’s been so long since her entrance into the Academy that.. perhaps she has forgotten some of the things about how that went, or simply didn’t pay attention once she was there, it hadn’t mattered to her, the how of it.
When Meg looks up again she blinks at their surroundings. “That could be risky too though. I don’t want anyone using your power in a way you don’t agree with so we’ll hafta be.. uh.. what.” Meg frowns at the house. “Anyone else got a bad feeling about this all of a sudden?” Soft snickering from the imp. “Yep. We’re totes gonna die. Or get eaten. Or stomped. Or framed. Like when you an…ow! Okay okay I’ll shutup.” Megana sighs. “Really he isn’t totally useless but I swear I’m gonna get a muzzle if he doesn’t quit that.” ….”promise?” the imp whispers softly and pets Meg’s hair. The Shifter puts her palm over her face and shakes her head then removes the imp and ties the leash to the fence post. “Stay you cheeky little rat.” “ooh baby I love it when she talks dirty to me…” Lli Chibt lies down and looks up at the sky, seemingly watching the clouds with an intent gaze.
The young necromancer snorts a little. “Well, my last teachers already tried that,” he says, chuckling dryly. No, it really wasn’t funny, but he couldn’t say that he hadn’t learned something from it. Although he probably could have been better off not going through it all. He nods at Slaine. Negotiating to get into the Academy…well, that’ll be fun.
When they come up to the address in question, Kaji can’t help but be a bit impressed. The only other really fancy place he’d ever been to was the home of Victoria Cross, his boss’s…rival? Girlfriend? He’d never really clarified which it was. Hearing Megana’s hesitation, he glances at her and the imp. “…..” Yeah, he’s not sure what to say about Lli Chibt, but he feels a little better having him be left outside.
“We’re here, so we may as well,” the teenager says, stepping up to the door. He looks at the knocker, and then at Slaine and Megana before reaching up to put it to use.
Something about the way Meg says that has Slaine glancing at the Shifter before looking at Kaji again “They’re your powers. It’s up to ye what ye wan’ to do. If ye wan’ help or advise though, I’ll be righ’ here for ye. If ye wan’ company when ye go up, I can do that, too.” She nods at the Accidental Necromancer. Yes, lets go in.
The knocker on the door cracks a leonine eye open and stares at the youth just as Kaji’s hand closes over the ring. There’s are an almost ear shattering roar as the ring is bought to bear against the striker plate. Someone … has a sense of … humor or the macabre. Slaine can’t decide.
It takes a few moments but the door opens and reveals a tall blonde woman in flowing lavendar gown. Kaji and Meg might recognize her, Evelynn Crowe. One of the Vesper Senators. “May I help you?” Her voice is just lovely, lilting and calming with the trace of the same accent that Slaine has … just more refined.
Megana nods approvingly at Slaine, glad that she’ll be there for Kaji too and then refrains, barely, from jabbing the eye with a finger. She seems torn between annoyance and amusement at the thing. ‘Oh fuck me. A senator?! Oh dammit dammit dammit.’ At least she manages to keep the cursing to her thoughts instead of speaking aloud.
She’s so glad she left Lli Chibt tied up by the gate though. Oh geeze. ‘Well, this’ll be interesting anyway.’ Meg thinks and she’s curious to see if she can get any dirt on this senator and is somewhat cheered by the thought that she knows where the woman lives now at least. Or maybe knows. This could be someone else’s house. Or a front house used for business dealings or.. maybe she should just pay attention instead of wondering. “Hello. We saw the job posting and came to ask about it.”
Wait, did that thing move? Before he can even finish that thought, the knocker roars, and Kaji releases the ring, jumping back. Once his heart’s not in his throat, he might actually consider that a pretty neat trick. And that he’d totally have something like that if he had a giant house with a posh knocker.
At least Megana’s on top of things, covering for greetings and such while the necromancer recovers from his start, clearing his throat. He nods, trying not to stand so stiffly.
“Oh. You did. Excellent. Come in, come in…” Evelynn answers, stepping back to the trio in and then gesturing to room off the side. She looks at the knocker on the door and smiles “Leo must like you if he didn’t try to bite.” The smile she gives Kaji is slightly sharp.
The room when they enter it is a library of sorts. There aren’t many books, of course, but there’s sheets of vellum on an escritoire in the corner. Clearly Senator Crowe had been working when they arrived.
“I’m Evelynne Crowe, Senator of Vesper.” she introduces herself, clearly expecting them to introduce themselves, before gesturing again “Would you like any refreshments? And what would you like to ask about?”
“Thanks but I think we’re good.” Megana eyes Kaji and Slaine for a moment to give them a chance to accept if they wish before she continues. “I’m Megana Shadowcleft, a Shifter Priestess of the Night Eternal, This is my friend Slaine McClellan, a Mystic of some renown and our-” Meg thinks fast. “Apprentice, Kaji.”
It’s not really a lie, he was an apprentice, he’s probably going to be again and he is their family, or maybe in Slaine’s case good friend. Meg isn’t sure. But the two want this work, probably and some would take offense at Necromancy. And some would take the wrong kind of interest in it. Also Meg suspects the Senate knows too much about the three of them already and maybe partly attempting to test that theory. “We’re wondering what kinda work you need done, Ma’am.” She can be polite, she just doesn’t choose to unless there’s a good reason for it.
The smile Kaji returns isn’t nearly so convincing. Bite? Uguuu….. He eyes the knocker on the way in, clutching his hands close as he wonders which might be more dangerous, Leo the knocker or the senator who owns the house?
It’s half out of curiosity and half out of habit that he takes in everything as they follow Evelynne inside, looking around the room that she leads them to. When the woman addresses them again, he bows his head politely. Since Megana had taken the lead earlier, he’s fine with letting her resume. If they’re dealing with someone so high up he’d rather just follow her and Slaine’s lead.
It’s also somewhat of a relief to him that Megana handles the introductions. He doesn’t object to being considered an apprentice, and by his own reasoning, it’s not a lie.
Slaine slants an eyebrow at Meg but doesn’t say a word. Kaji’s not an apprentice – he might be learning but words have power and it’s important to remember that. Even in Vesper. Especially in Vesper.
“Yes, I know of Miss McClennan of course. Who couldn’t…” that might not be very promising but the Senators eyes, lavender in color if they’re not mistaken, land on Kaji “Ah yes. Kaji. I don’t believe you’re an apprentice but I do know you did the city a great service recently. You have my personal thanks for that.”
Yes. She knows of him and knows what he is.
“As the advertisement says, Miss … Shadowcleft, I am in need of an escort to Clearwater. I’m attending with a Trade Delegation for a negotiation and would feel more comfortable if I had people of my own to look out for me.”
On the surface that doesn’t sound like to bad of a deal. The run to Clearwater won’t be easy, but it’s likely the delegation will be accompanied by others and all the three will need to do is guard the Senator and protect her if needed. It might mean be a bit boring, even.
Megana eyes the Senator for a long moment, wondering why the woman doesn’t already have “people of her own” to look out for her, trusted guards and servents.. it’s strange, isn’t it? Or does she have them and think they won’t be enough perhaps? Meg kinda doubts it’ll be boring.
“How big is the party you plan to travel with and how are you intending on traveling?” The Shifter asks, making no comment about the woman’s pause with her name or the fact that she knows about Kaji. Mentally Meg is both grinning and rolling her eyes. She knows well what she’s doing or attempting to and she’s already potentially learned a lot about this woman. She might be a bit rusty at the art of deception after two years of being on the straight and narrow but she used to be quite good at it. She’s sure with some work she will be again but that’s all the testing she’s willing to give it today. “A trade delegation you say? I’m guessing you’ll need more conventional means of travel than a Rift then? I can’t hold one for long for a great many people or trade goods and baggage but I’m sure we could serve as more traditional escorts if we hire on.” Meg looks to Kaji and then nods ever so slightly at Slaine. She’s ready to leave the rest of the decision and dealing to the Mystic if she wants. Meg’s got the feeling the Senator would work better with Slaine than her.
“I’m still learning, ma’am,” Kaji replies, meeting the Senator’s gaze even as he hunches his shoulders as though wanting to duck his head. Forcing himself to relax, he bobs his head in something of a bow at her thanks. “I’m just glad that everything worked out.”
Feeling no need to go into detail, he leaves it at that, falling silent again to listen as the Senator explains the circumstances of her posted job. So she’s the one that required an escort. Playing the part of a bodyguard isn’t something he’s particularly done before, but thinking about it, the only difference would be in the formality of it. Fighting to keep people safe isn’t new, otherwise. And who knows, maybe they won’t even have to fight anything! Not that Kaji is willing to bet on that.
He looks from the Senator to Slaine and Megana, wondering what all they know about the blond-haired woman. It’s not like he can ask here, of course.
“Portal travel will be handled by the Justicars. We’ve several available who can arrange that.” Evelynne answers. “There’ll be twenty or so. In my party there’ll be just myself. You’ll be travelling in addition to my own personal body guard, but with the demon attacks down in Clearwater, he wanted to ensure that my safety was guaranteed.”
Did she know that’s what Meg was thinking? It’s possible. The Senator has a reputation for being savvy and it’s a logical question.
“Are you still interested in the job?” Slaine remains silent, letting the other two do the talking.
Demon attacks in Clearwater? Meg is definitely interested now. Interested and slightly torn… if they fail to protect this lady its gonna be soooo bad. So beyond bad. If she were a more cautious sort she’d probably refuse, the possible risk outweighing the possible reward but if she were the cautious sort she’d be running the fuck the other way at the word “demons” wouldn’t she? “Well, I’m interested anyway, but I’ll be honest, only so long as there’s no fallout for us should something unexpected happen and one of us manages to survive but you don’t. Not that I think that will be happen but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been set up to fail in a situation like this and I’d rather not see the same happen to my friends. I’ll do my best to see you there safely and my power ought to be rather helpful if anything unexpected comes up.”
She’ll have to be on her best behavoir around those friggin’ justicars but… well, she can manage. Megana looks to Slaine and Kaji. They’ll have to answer for themselves, Slaine is a hard read but Meg suspects Kaji is curious or at the very least would want to help keep people safe. And he did need the money and it could possibly go smoothly. Megana laughs inwardly ‘Said everyone ever right before they died or ended up framed for murder.’
He didn’t need the money that badly! And he’s sure that there are probably others well more qualified than himself- although it makes him feel a little better knowing that Evelynne wasn’t going to completely rely upon their own power. Hypothetically speaking, of course!
The demon attacks are something he’s well aware of. That had been the reason that he and the others had gone up that way before. That such things are still going is troubling. He’d sort of hoped that dealing with the blood mages would have stopped that. Did it mean that something else was still going on there? …but there always is, it seems.
“When is the event going to take place?” Kaji asks, glancing at Slaine briefly before he returns his attention to the Senator. “If I’m able to help, I would like to.” But they’ve also got other things to take care of as well, and Kaji knows where his priorities would fall in that case.
“I have no objections.” Slaine finally speaks up. This is a regular type of run for the little Mystic. In fact, this sounds a bit easier than much of the work she picks up.
“The Trade Delegation is scheduled for two weeks from today,” Evelynne answers, her voice carrying that faint Vesper accent. “If you think you’ll be available then, you all have the job. As the advertisement says, it pays twenty gold cash.”
Heading over to her escritoire, the lavender eyed woman picks up a sheet of vellum. “Your contract. I’m assuming you’ll want to read this, or have it read to you, before you sign it. Please drop back within three days, signed by you all. Is there anything else?”
“Thank you, Ma’am, no. We’ll be sure to have it read over and brought back in time once we’ve made sure we have no prior engagements.” Meg is a little irked by the “have it read to you comment but careful not to let it show. She can read a few languages on her own and most all of them with a certain handy spell. That isn’t the norm though and Megana knows it.
The Shifter curtsies gracefully to the Senator, dress skirt flaring out like wings. She turns and heads towards the door, pausing to wait for Kaji and Slaine. Two weeks hm. Should give them plenty of time to prepare at least. Maybe even investigate the demon threat before hand?
Nodding, Kaji reaches out to take the contract if no one else does, eyes skimming over it although he’ll give it a closer read with the others, later.
“I think that’s all for now, Senator,” he says, echoing Megana’s curtsy with a bow of his own. “Thank you for your time.” Three days to decide and turn this thing in, then. It looks like they’ve decided though, but then anything can happen in a day, especially around here. He waits for Slaine to head out after Megana before trailing them both.
Finding a promising if curious job proposition, Kaji, Megana and Slaine go to see if they can get more details as to the task in question.
