Kaji received a message yesterday to meet Hunter and Ardul in Sarens Rest, in Shadetown near Doc Styles surgery. The earliest he could here was on the first Ferry, just as the sun is rising and the nocturnal D-Bee’s disappear and the diurnal ones appear.
It’s pretty busy as he makes his way through the ‘town’ – the groups getting ready to head into Vanished Point for their daily spelunking and the bazaar is fairly thrumming as last minutes supplies are procured.
It’s around here the message said to meet them.
It’s been easier for the young necromancer to get back into a more normal schedule of early rising now that he doesn’t feel like his energy’s being siphoned off. Making his way down the road from the docks, Kaji looks around once he’s fairly certain he’s arrived at the appointed area.
It seems he’s finally gotten around to finding a smaller pack to carry things he can’t otherwise cram into the pockets of his coat, having something of a narrow, compact messenger bag with its main strap thrown over one shoulder and the bag itself fastened to his belt to stay at his hip. Just in front of it hangs his plasma blade.
Strangely… hunter isn’t there. And neither on first glance is Ardul. Which maybe isn’t unexpected. These ‘docks’ are really just rubble protrusions sticking out into the water. This portion of Saren’s Rest was well above the waterline and never meant to serve martime traffic, which means the ‘docks’ are fairly disorganized. There’s people coming and going at all hours during the day time. Even so… they don’t seem to be here.
A shadow falls over the bazaar, something with wings, and there’s a small commotion just ahead of him. The crowd parts and two winged figures revealed. Tall like Ardul, their wings white/grey and the tips of wings dyed blood red. Unlike Ardul though, these wear featureless grey masks.
More concerning they’re approaching Kaji as their energy swords light up. Without any warning, they fall on the young necromancer and the crowd … just seems to watch.
It //is// Sarens Rest after all.
That there’s no sign of Ardul nor Hunter //is// a bit unusual, but Kaji continues to look. He’d only just gotten here, after all. The shadow that sweeps across the bazaar crowds has him glancing up, but against the sky with even the early morning light at its back, it’s hard for him to see exactly what it is. With something going on ahead, Kaji’s attention immediately shifts.
He blinks at the pair of winged figures, neither familiar although he doesn’t doubt that they might be from Ardul’s world. Cue the igniting of their weapons and it really leaves no room for questioning. Frowning, he takes a step back, his left hand grabbing the curved hilt from his belt, and as they bring those blades around he’s thumbed his own on. Whether he can actually hold off two blades at one time is something he’s not sure of, but they’re not giving him much of a choice right now.
Can Kaji hold off two Iyesgarthians? That’s a good question. These two don’t seem to think he can and advance on him. Though the igniting of his plasma blade, gives them a moment of pause. If they had been going to be easier on him, that just changed.
As one of them bears down directly in front of him, plasma blade humming as it arcs at him, the other tries to flank the youth. They’re not going to make this easy, not at all … and they’re going to cheat.
Gulp. Maybe he should have just run? But generally if someone comes after you with a lightsaber or otherwise- and have //wings//, it probably won’t work very well in your favor. Eyes flicking from one to the other, Kaji looks as the one comes at him.
And he shuts off his blade.
That’s only so he doesn’t accidentally punch a hole through his own head or something as he ducks and scrambles under the first attacker’s swipe, and if not to dive through his legs, Kaji aims to try scrambling past him. He’s not letting himself get surrounded, that’s for sure…!
Granted he’s able to get past, he pivots, his light blade flaring to life again as he brings it up in preparation for a follow-up.
The first signal to Hunter’s presence is a laser bolt glancing off of the armor that one of the Iyesgarthians is wearing. The next one is his almost bellowed cry of “Get them, Ardul!”
The red coated wolfen appears at the far end of the jetty, duster billowing behind him. His signature weapon is raised and aimed. Now he’s just waiting for a good opening. Hopefully he doesn’t have to wait too long.
The Iyesgarthian that was coming for Kaji actually stops and looks at the ground between their legs. If this wasn’t so serious, that might be comical. They turn though, in one fluid motion and the blade hums again at Kaji’s, just as Hunters bolt hits the other assailant.
Kaji has managed to put himself in a good position, it’s not possible for him to be flanked here.
The avian that just got hit turns and stares at Hunter – well, it might be staring it’s hard to tell with that featureless mask. His wings beat down and he launches himself, closing the distance between Hunter and himself quickly, energy blade humming through the air at the Wolfen as he does.
Kaji’s not going for style points; he just wants to make sure he stays in one piece! His plasma blade grasped in both his hands now, he’s ready as the other blade is swung at him again.
Hearing that familiar voice that shouts, and the name that’s called with it is a great relief, but Kaji doesn’t turn away as he knows it’d probably be a bad idea to get distracted in a lightsaber fight. At least he knows he can trust Hunter’s shooting!
“What do you want anyway??” he instead questions the Iyesgarthian in front of him, focusing more on the defensive than getting in an attack.
“I don’t know that they’ll talk.” Hunter responds for them. “But I promise if they do you’re not going to like what they say.”
Finding an opening he shoots again. He’s a good shot. A crack shot even but getting good hits into a swirlling melee without hitting people you’d rather not hit is tricky. Mostly what he’s trying to do is distract so the two with swords can do work. Or maybe it’s the one with sword.
And then he’s being charged. Well that changes things. As the Iyesgarthian closes Hunter simply unloads in classic fashion. Which is to say… very quickly.
When Hunter can think about it, there’s one thing he’ll realise – there was probably no report from the other two yesterday. If there was, there’s no way this one would have just rushed him like that. And taken the blasts in his armour – armour that doesn’t melt away but is certainly structurally weakened.
There’s a grunt and the tall winged figure swings it’s blade, targetting Hunters meat arm, not his mechanical. Maybe that’s a mistake on its part or maybe it’s trying to distract him.
“You are a prisoner of Iyesgarth.” Is all Kaji gets as the blade hums and spins towards him. He’ll recognise the style – this one was trained by Ardul, and if Kaji remembers his lessons, he’ll know the counters. Clearly, his assailant isn’t expecting much skill and is just trying to overwhelm him with strength.
“Not exactly reassuring,” Kaji grunts at Hunter’s response, but he takes another step back, his eyes on the warrior in front of him. Watch your opponent, not their weapon.
“-oh, you //can// talk!” He sees the familiar stance and shifts accordingly as his opponent’s blade comes at him, letting his blade slide along with it, not so much to stop it head on as help it past him. The other’s powerful strikes are an easy read, and Kaji knows that the more you put behind each blow, the more off balance you put yourself at risk. In contrast Kaji keeps his own strike quick and close to himself, bringing his blade under and around once the Iyesgarthian has moved past.
“But we’re not in Iyesgarth, so-!”
Hunter’s metal hand snaps out at a super human speed and grabs the attacking winged man’s wrist. Then Hunter just socks his opponent in the face. It’s with his meat hand sure but he’s still a wolfen which mean’s he’s really, really strong. Not dragon strong, but few things are.
“Where the crap is Ardul…” Hunter mutters as he gets kneed. This guy certainly knows how to fight. Fortunately Hunter does too. The trick will be not getting stabbed with a big flaming blade while he does it.
The Iyesgarthian attacking Kaji trips forward, slightly off balance as the youth moves nimbly. She wasn’t expecting that and it leaves her armoured flank exposed, giving Kaji a good target for his next hit – but he won’t have long as she’s gathering herself to turn right now.
Hunters opponents head snaps back as he’s punched, but he’s quick and his knee comes up as he tries to twist his wrist free from the Wolfens grip.
It’s then that another flaming blade flashes, a bit under the level of Hunters eyes and the head with the featureless mask rolls free … There’s Ardul. And she’s bleeding from a gouge in her face… “Help … Kaji, Lord.” She turns as the lifeless body of this Iyesgarthian guard drops to the ground.
Kaji continues to track his own opponent as she’s thrown off. It’s a small window, but he sees the opening.
He brings his blade down in a diagonal slash while the Iyesgarthian is in the process of trying to redirect herself. He’s not sure how tough Iyesgarthian armor is but he’s not actively trying to kill this person. Although by what Hunter had said, the Wolfen seemed familiar with them already. Did they not need to question them?
Right. He’ll worry about that later.
“on it.” Hunter reloads with practiced speed and takes aim again. This time it doesn’t take him long to draw a bead. The fight with Kaji is a less swirling one than it had been. “Almost… almost…”
The six shooter discharges all of it’s cylinders in the sound of a single shot.
Kaji’s blade bites into the Iyesgarthian’s armour. Deep but not all the way. It causes the woman to grunt and try to drag herself back and then Hunters shot sounds… and the blasts hit the rents that the youth has made.
The woman falls forward, onto Kaji … but Arduls there, grabbing the carcass by the collar and heaving it away from him.
“Kaji, Lord, are you alright?” She asks the both of them, blood trickling down her face. “I’m sorry I was late, … Hunter.”
Kaji staggers back, his plasma blade flickering off as Hunter’s shots impact the winged warrior. Well, so much for that. Finally having the chance to look around, he sighs in relief. It’s only momentary as he notices Ardul’s injury. “/I’m/ fine, but are you? What happened? And what’s with these guys running around here claiming prisoners?”
Hunter reloads once more and holsters his weapon. There don’t seem to be any other threats immediately about. “I’m going to guess you had a run in with someone else.” Hunter says quietly to Ardul. “I’m unhurt. Though we should get your face seen to.”
Now there’s something people don’t often say and not get slapped.
“They’re compromised Iyesgarthians. Apparently you’re of interest to them. They tried to get me and Ardul yesterday. I wonder why you, though.”
Maybe Hyfil thinks he’s leverage. Or maybe there’s something more nefarious at play.
“I was coming over the roof and …” she nods to Hunters observation. That means there’s a third body around somewhere. “We were attacked yesterday too. What are you doing here, Kaji?”
She looks at Hunter then “If we hadn’t decided to check the docks this morning …” Kaji would have been in a lot of trouble.
Still a bit reluctant to put away his own weapon, Kaji keeps the hilt in hand for now. He frowns at what Hunter says, but Ardul’s words have him look back at her and then the Wolfen, blinking.
“…wait. You didn’t ask me to meet you here?” he asks, brow furrowing. That could only mean one thing, and he’s not too happy about it. But that doesn’t really answer Hunter’s question as to the why’s of it all.
“Nooooo…” Hunter cants his head in a way that is very very canine. He looks like a husky that’s just seen something it doesn’t understand.
“Did you think we had? That’s… worrying. It means they know enough about you to track you. Where are you staying right now? Is it safe?”
“Let’s get out of here, back to our place …” Ardul looks at Kaji with concern. “We did not send that message, Kaji. They … must know of you and our connection.”
That they’re not only coming for Hunter but now for Kaji. This … is a problem. What would they have done to the youth if they had captured him.
For now though, she wants them all to safety. They can discuss in detail when that happens.
