When headed into a situation that potentially involves violence, mayhem and the need for a quick aescape Aiden always thinks the same thing first: There has to be a better way to do this. The //second// thing he generally thinks, though, is ‘we should probably bring a shifter.’ As it turns out, Aiden knows a shifter who is good with violence and making quick escapes. So he’s sent Ghost to go retrieve her while he browses the shops.
“Who did you say made the really good magical rat traps, Slaine?” Pest control might be necessary. On an industrial level. And Slaine is the one of the two of them who would know where to get it. Or at least, where to look.
“Sterlin’ of course.” Slaine murmurs as she walks beside the psychic. There’s only two techno wizards that the small mystic trusts. One is Sterling who’s good at defensive type devices and the other Leo. Who prefers to make things go ‘boom’. Loudly.
“I believe that he’s out o’ town though Gertrude is here. He normally has a few things like that held out the back, did ye wan’ me to get some”
Megana has been busy decorating her new tower, filling it with minions, pets, and even a servent or two. In her off time she’s been making it clear that Vesper is home now and she’s intending on staying for good. Which means several minor and one slighty major battle over territory and rules in the area around the docks and the club and tower, and general mischief and misfortune for the dark denizens of Glowtown as she re-establishes her presence.
It’s been.. interesting, often noisy and occasionally subtle far beyond what anyone would expect of her and thus not attributed to the Dark Shifter Priestess. In other words, fun! Today though she’s taking a break from all that to get to know Jeshua. She’s got a soft spot for kids it’s true and she likes studying the magic of others too. Dressed in black and crimson leather, dripping silver chains and daggers and wearing a thin black iron circlet with a red ruby in the center, the Shifter strolls forward heading towards meeting up with Aiden and Slaine. “I’m not sure what we’re doing but probably traveling and fighting. So it should be fun! Don’t worry, we’ll keep you safe and really the best way to learn about what you can do is just toss you into the water kiddo and see if you sink or swim. If you drown I’ll bring you back.” Megana grins. She’s kidding, right?
What Megana suggests is like one of those object lessons. This whole sink or swim notion is what led her here to Vesper. Or something like it. “You say that like it’s a good thing.” Or like Jesh has any real idea of this whole ‘toss you into the water’ thing. Sure, she gets the gist of it, but it’s not like she learned to swim. Ever. Or ever wanted to. It was one of those things you kind of avoided as much as possible if you could.
Kind of like magic.
Except, well.. she’d not been avoiding that so much lately either. As her mornings – and some afternoons – at the Restorium would attest to. Plus some time spent with Miss Suss on the side.
“And what do you mean if I drown?” Megana might be kidding, but Jeshua really isn’t that certain. And just where does the metaphor of drowning and what magic can do meet? She’s pretty sure there’s a whole world of pain in there somewhere, just waiting for her.
“And what do you do when Gertrude is in one of her moods?” Aiden sighs. Sterling had been otherwise occupied possibly with something either alive, explosive or both. “Alternately, can do you know anyone who can come up with an industrial amount of aresnic? Or… a druid?” Slaine might have contacts in that regard. Aiden has Ghost but the world’s largest housecat isn’t exactly a mouser.
“Ah there they are. Hello Megana and… Jeshua. Everything going well at the club?” It looks like it is. For some definitions of well. Meg’s definition.
“We’ve got a… propasition for you. Slaine can tell you more but it involves sewers and rats.” Jesh knows a bit about it already, actually.
“Blush a lot and try to keep my temper…” comes the snarky reply. Aiden knows that Gertrude doesn’t approve of Slaine, mostly because she thinks Slaine is going to lead Sterling … astray. “No’ the arsenic, no but I migh’ know a druid. I’ll need a day or two to get in touch wi’ them. But I’ll try Sterlin’s first. Maybe I’ll catch Gertrude on a good day ….”
Not … likely.
“Hello Megana, Jeshua.” she greets the other two as they join them. And Ghost, of course. Ghost is a bit of a favourite with Slaine. “There’s an entity livin’ in the sewers of Vesper, it’s controlling the rats and causin’ them to swarm. Calls itself the Rat King.” she rolls her eyes, because ofcourse it does. “To find it, we have to negotiate the sewers and find a hidden chamber… ” That’s, sort of it. In a nutshell.
Megana laughs as her reassurances seem to go over the girl’s head. Then laughs again at the thought. “Sorry, Shifter humor. I meant, don’t worry. You’ll learn something at least and I’ll be there to help if you need it. No need to deliberately scare her or mention some of the darker aspects of her powers.
Megana’s brows raise as she catches Aiden’s question to Slaine. She nods and grins though. “Yep! Pretty well. How’re you guys?” The Shifter’s brows raise again. Sewers and rats eh? It just so happens she likes rats and some interesting things can be found in sewers so… While a normal person might have an aversion to the smell at least, when you have powers like hers, you get used to things like that pretty fast. She did anyway. It’s also true that the things that usually cause one to run screaming in fear and madness or recoiling in disgust and horror tend to draw simple interest or delight from her. “Sounds like fun.” Meg smiles.
She closes her eyes for a moment, focuses her mind on her familiar. They’ve been doing something new of late when she wants to blend in or pass as someone less… worrisome. So it might be a bit of a surprise when what looks like a tubby, blue eyed, dark haired human child of three comes running up to Meg a few minutes into the conversation. “Sorry boss! That freakin’ vampire bat you bought got loose again and bit the shi-Ooh Hi Slaine!” The disguised imp grins up at the mystic and then seems to realize he’s getting a few strange looks. “Oops.” He rubs the tiny gold stud in his left ear and the illusion fades, a redskinned imp appearing in the child’s place. “Well, at least that is turning out to be worth the cost.” The imp nods then looks at Jeshua “Oh kid, Gran wanted ya.” Damn, Meg muses. She’ll have to come up with another opportunity to test the girl. Well, something to look forward to! “The Rat King?” Megana looks interested. “Lead on.”
“Less a question of leading this moment and more a question of getting ready for it though we’ll be going shortly enough.” Aiden puts both hands in his pockets and watches the imp. Then he looks up to Slaine. Then back down at the imp. Demons still make him twitch. He’s spent a fair amount of his life hunting and killing them. He’s aware that they’re often used as servants by shifters – especially the lesser sorts – it’s just always… off putting.
“I was hoping we might make use of one of your other talents today. A rift jump if you can. There’s someone I want to look up, but they’ve gone pretty far north. Have you ever been to Lazlo?”
Aiden had mentioned to Slaine he wanted to take a trip. He hadn’t mentioned it was by rift. To one of the most famous free cities in America.
Slaines eyebrows rise as the imp, or the child, greets her. That’s … different and not something she had expected. Imps. She doesn’t like them, not at all but that greeting was something … else.
“Ye goin’ take me home to see ye’re folks, Aiden?” she teases the psychic but he’s getting a strange look from the Mystic. He can still surprise her it seems.
“Can ye do it, Meg? Take us to Lazlo?”
“I know it, and can get us there sure.” Megana notices their reactions to her familiar and she kinda understands. It’s not like she thinks demons are good or anything, she understands better than many just what they are but, she’s also what she is and taking him as her familiar had not entirely been her choice anyway. Hence the disguise they’ve taken to using. Aiden and Slaine know her though and know about Lli Chibt so neither of the two felt the need to keep it up.
Meg seems a bit disappointed they aren’t going to search for this rat king immediately but not much. Lazlo is a place she hasn’t visted since she was much, much younger. It should be interesting. “It won’t be a problem, you wanna go now or later?” The Shifter asks.
“Now would be good.” Aiden says, watching as Meg opens the rift. It’s always a bit of a leap of faith doing this but it’s also the only safe way to quickly traverse distances this large.
The rift deposits them just outside in the middle of a busy city even larger than Vesper. Outside a club of the… exotic type. The psychic eyes Meg. “Why am I not surprised…?” Rifts do tend to go places their makers remember or recognize. When they work.
It could be a coincidence sure. But it’s probably not.
The moment Slaine steps through something or rather someone slams into her, having been shoved back with some force. It’s a wolfen. A female one. The person who pushed her into Slaine – actually almost pushed her through a rift – is a cyborg of some kind. Big hulking thing with a featureless metal mask instead of face. “Ooof!”
As the Rift opens, Slaine watches. There’s a slight shadow in her darkened eyes. Aiden might know why. But it opens without incident and the redheaded mystic steps through and sprawls to the ground … on her face.
“Oi. Watch wher—-” she looks up, and up and then to the cyborg behind. Trying to pick herself up off the ground, Half Pint sighs and looks around for Aiden. Better not upset the locals. Not yet at least.
Megana sticks her tongue out at Aiden and then grins. She turns quickly, left hand going for the dagger on her hip, right raised to do..something..probably horribly unpleasant, stops and blinks. “Uh.” Well, at least that wasn’t her fault and they didn’t end up in hades toilet or something. She’s skilled, really skilled but when you tear open holes in reality, shit can happen.
“Pardon us, didn’t mean to get in the way.” Megana smiles and bends to pick up Lli Chibt. Her companions might have expected something more like “Hey watch where the fuck you’re going moron!” But she does have manners when she wants to and it wouldn’t do to get them thrown out before Aiden does what he needs. Megana reaches to brush Slaine off and help her up with one hand while keeping an eye on the Wolfen and the ..Thing.
“Look, Bart for the last time you need to get to…” The Wolfen’s voice is low and rough for a woman. ‘Bart’, the cyborg, doesn’t let her finish. He lunges forward much faster than his bulk suggests he’s capable of on penumatic legs. A solid punch sends the wolfen woman flying over Slaine and Meg to land on the other side five feet away. That’s a hell of a right cross.
And then he swings at Aiden who fortunately for him is able to nimbly leap out of the way.
“Hey!” The psychic snaps, clearly displeased with this turn of events. His sword springs into being drawing gasps from those nearby. A cyborg punch can be lethal but psy swords are rare and… when they come out it usually means someone is leaving a fight in several pieces.
“Wonderful.” Slaine mutters as Meg helps to her feet. “We walk righ’ into the middle of a bar fight…” or street fight or something. Not taking the time to dust herself off, blue energy crackles over her fingers and she mutters the words of a spell. Arcane symbols swirl around the Cyborg and the air stirs, starting to wrap him, or it, up.
“Is the Wolfen woman alrigh’, Meg?”
Megana’s warm smile to the strangers quickly turns cold. She’s tempted to open a Rift right under that cyborg to somewhere isolated and quiet where he comtemplate his poor life choices for the remainder of it but Aiden has his sword out so the Shifter just moves out of the way and heads for the Wolfen instead. “What a dick. Are you alright, lady?” Megana asks the Wolfen. She likes Wolfen and rather hopes that overgrown hunk of rust hasn’t seriously hurt them.
Lli Chibt eyes the cyborg with a scowl. He has been working on his aim every day, every single damned day, so that Meg will finally buy him those stun pistols or maybe a lazer one if he gets really good! but even if he had them he doesn’t think it’d do much good to that thing unless he manages to become some kinda crack shot that magically hits the weak spots of a foe and that just isn’t gonna happen. “Yeah sorry, but I seriously had no control over whatg they were doing here and it coulda been worse.” Meg says as she kneels by the Wolfen and mutters “Cyborgs really piss me the hell off.”
The wolfen has a light grey… almost silvery fur… and a badge. Local law enforcement? “Ow. I’m fine I’m fine. What about B-”
The wolfen sits up to see Bart struggling in Slaine’s ‘grip’ and Aiden’s blade not far from it’s neck.
She sighs. “Hang on I’m going to call someone. Can you hold him, Miss? Aiden, don’t kill him. For God’s sake I don’t want to do the paperwork.”
Aiden… knows this woman? Who is… law enforcement?
“I can…” Slaine grunts, fingers twitching as the air tightens around the Cyborg and he struggles. “I can bury in the ground, if ye like… ” She could. With little effort. Meg and Aiden know that. She can hold this spell for a little bit, without real effort.
“I’m Slaine McClennan. Ye can call me Slaine. I take it, this is the person we came to see, Vargr?”
Vargr. She calls him Vargr in public.
Megana squints at Aiden by doesn’t ask. She is ever so glad she chose to behave and be polite now however. Inwardly the Shifter is a bit amused though. Of course she’d drop them right onto the local law. Lady Luck is a bitch with a sense of humor. “How often do you hafta do paperwork?” Meg asks the Wolfen curiously. Sheesh if she had to do that, she’d never get anything else done. What a hassle.
“Whats his problem anyway? It’s not like we actually hit him when we got here and arriving aint illegal last time I checked.” Lli Chibt pauses and frowns. “Actually I never been here but like, that wouldn’t make sense right? You gotta be able to get here?” Meg looks askance at her familiar. “Did you get bit by the vampire bat?? Or were you in green mushrooms again?” Lli Chibt smiles adorably up at her. “Yes?” The Shifter sighs. “Awesome.”
“He needs help…” The wolfen woman mutters. “Long term cyborgs sometimes have psychotic breaks. Human beings weren’t made to be in inhuman bodies… Just bury him miss…”
“McClellan.” Aiden supplies. “And yes Slaine. This is who I wanted to see.”
The wolfen woman speaks into a radio. It only takes a few mintues for a small group of militia to come and collect Bart. What they’re going to do with him is not said.
“Now, who are these people with you Aiden and what the hell are you doing here?”
“Charming as usual Silvermane. This is Slaine McClellan and Megana Shadowcleft both of Vesper. Slaine, Meg, this is Silvermane. Lazlo’s chief of police.”
Silvermaine looks over the two women. “Vesper? Interesting. You’re both a long way from home. What are you two doing tangled up with someone like Aiden Frost?” The way she says it, she thinks Aiden means trouble. Not necessarily //is// trouble, but the psychic does have a tendency to… drag it around with him.
“Silvermaine…” Slaine had already given her name but with the excitement, it’s no wonder it was missed. “… pleased to meet ye and honestly, I’m no’ sure why Vargr brought us here, but he wanted to speak to ye, it seems.”
As the militia arrive to take care of Bart, she finally lets her spell fade. “We have a vermin problem at home. Rats being controlled by a psychic entity, so I suspect, Vargr thinks there’s a way we can get some … rat traps?” Truthfully, she has no idea.
Megana can’t help it, she starts laughing. Of all the people she’s in regular contact with at the moment, she would not consider Aiden trouble. She..may have a different idea of trouble though. “Aw he isn’t so bad, Lady, and he’s cute for a human.” The Shifter grins. She doesn’t seem to care what happens to the cyborg and dismisses from her attention as soon as he’s in hand. She has no compassion for people who submit to mechanical implants like that. It’s unnatural!
About to say she’d just been hired to bring them here Meg changes her mind and says “besides, he’s family. Slaine too. I brought us cause I was asked. Sorry if we got into your way. It’s been a very long time since I was here last. I wasn’t exactly aiming for this spot but well..” She shrugs. Rifting is not science and not always exact. ‘Chief of the police?! Geeeze. Good call on the politeness, Boss.’ Lli Chibt thinks at Meg but remains quiet, clinging to her side. He’s rather wishing he’d turned his disguise back on at the moment.
Silvermane snorts. “Not nearly enough hair.” She means Aiden. Clearly Silvermane likes her men more hirsuite. “Also he’s a bet scrawny.”
“Hey!” Aiden protests. He’s in good shape. For a human.
When Slaine mentions possessing entities and rat traps the wolfeness’ eyes narrow. “You’re here for the Crown of Command, aren’t you?”
Aiden shrugs almost nonchalantly. “You did say if I ever needed help to ask. I need help. I’m asking.”
Silvermane blows out a sigh. “You know the crown drives men who wear it insane. You’d need a woman with psychic abilities to hope to use it successfully. And that’s assuming we could convince the council to release it to you and honestly I’m not sure why they would do that.”
“I can answer both in one go.” The psy-warrior says evenly. “Slaine is Moira McClellan’s grandaughter.”
Silvermane’s eyes lock onto Slaine. “What?” The tone is flat, and kind of surprised. She looks to Meg. “Is that true?”
“The … Crown of Command?” Slaines eyes slide to Aiden. Sometimes she wishes he would share his thoughts a little more. “What is that?” that’s to Silvermaine. She’s blunt, to the point but who can blame her? She just got flattened as she came through the Rift and now this.
The flat tone, the look she’s given has the little Mystic drawing herself up to her full height. “I am, yes. What of it?” She knows Gran is powerful and had an interesting life before she settled down in Vesper to raise her orphaned granddaughter.
Megana nods. “Yeah. She is.” Of course Meg would have aggreed with Aiden and backed him up even if he were putting on one but he isn’t. “You oughta come visit Vesper sometime. She’s got a great place.” Mentally the Shifter is simply trying to catch up. The Crown of Command?? This is some kinda artifact or something that she hasn’t heard of. Doesn’t sound like she could use it though and she has no interest in stealing something that a police chief who now knows her face has knowledge of.
She’s also wondering if Aiden really is from here and how he knows the Wolfen but those are questions for later. Meg doesn’t like to appear ignorant of things and she’s not about to admit confusion in front of the stranger. The flat tone could be worrying but well, even if she has no knowledge of what kind of reputation Gran has here, Meg knows the woman isn’t someone to be messed with. She’s always on her best behavoir at the Inn and one of the reasons she always chose to stay there despite being what she is was that no one messed with her and it was always safe. Or as safe as you get these anyway.
Aiden is not from Lazlo though that’s a story for another time. For those who ask. Slaine knows a little bit of that story. His origins are a bit more humble and obscure.
“Moira McClellan is a name the council knows. And respects. And if you’re her granddaughter you might well be able to…”
Silvermane makes a face and then motions for the others to follow.
“Like some of the other magical cities we do have a repository of knowledge and artifacts here in Lazlo. It’s under the control of the city. The Crown of Command is one such artifact. Magical… sort of. Possibly also technological. It was found during the coming of the rifts and no one knows if it’s from this world or another. What we do know is that it’s… cursed.”
“How is Gran known?” Slaine has to ask, of course she does. “What did she do?” Gran rarely speaks of her days before taking Slaine in and opening the inn.
Can she control the thing? The Mystic isn’t sure. She’s enough problems as it is but then again, this thing sounds like it might need a strong will. Slaine has that in spades. She follows along as Silvermaine moves “Vargrs not scrawny, by the way… Just not as … ” she slides a mischievious look at the psychic “… big as some.”
“Cursed because it sends men mad?”
That raises one of Meg’s brows. Aiden wants Slaine to use a cursed object? What the fuck is this Rat King? It’s starting to sound like it isn’t going to be her newest pet, that’s for sure. “Seriously guys, we have got to start charging them for this stuff. How many times do we gotta save that damned city already? We oughta own the place by now.” Megana mutters. She doesn’t looks upset though. Living in Vesper is sure as hell not boring.
“Why can’t you tell if it’s tech for sure? Shouldn’t a technowizard be able to asnwer that for ya? We have some good ones in Vesper.” Leo is totally batshit but he’s also a freakin genius. And Sterling really seems to know his stuff too. Meg kinda side eyes Slaine but she’s glad for the questions and the other woman’s willingness to ask. Meg is not often willing to show any sign of what could be considered weakness in front of people. Especially people she doesn’t know. That includes asking about stuff that seems to be common knowledge to others and she already asked about this crown thing. Meg blinks at Slaine’s comment about Aiden and then laughs. “That isn’t cursed then, if it just affects men. It’s just not meant for them. I’m a Priestess of the Night Eternal, and there are some things that the male followers simply can’t do. Because they are male. Because it’s just biologically impossible. So magic or tech or both, it’s entirely possible it isn’t cursed it just isn’t for men. But I uh.. I will admit I haven’t heard of this thing before.”
“There’s an old human saying Megana: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. That is true. Reach a certain level of development and it’s hard to tell what is breaking the laws of the universe and what’s just exploiting an obscure loophole.” Silvermane says, moving them off the main street and down a somewhat less crowded but still quite commercial side street.
“Not because it sends men mad Slaine.” Aiden breaks in. “That’s the result of the curse. Not the cause. No, it’s cursed because as I understand it there was a power struggle involving the Crown in Lazlo’s history. Two mages fought for control of it. The one who eventually won it banished the loser but not before the loser laid a curse on the artifact that only a ‘true queen of the line of Danu’ would be able to us it and that the ‘demons of the innermost hell’ would consume any other.”
“Archmage Danu McClellan… A hundred or so years ago. So the story goes.” Silvermane finishes. That may answer some of Slaine’s question indirectly. The wolfeness looks over at the redhead to see if it does.
Slaine frowns at Aiden as he clarifies the curse. “So what was….” she doesn’t finish as the pyschic continues. Silvermaine gets a look when she adds the missing information. “Lots of McClennans aroun’.” she says slowly “They ain’ all related. Ye’re implying that this Danu is my ancestor, though.”
It does answer Slaines question – in a way. “Doesn’ really explain why ye know of my Gran, does it?” They can’t keep tabs on the line, they didn’t know who Slaine was. “An’ ye think because of this curse and story, I can use it.”
Aiden gets another look from the mystic. He knew this. Knew of the story, of the curse. Knew … that it might touch on her.
The Shifter considers the saying quietly for a few moments. It makes sense but it’s still.. in her heart the divide between the two is clear and obvious even though she knows that isn’t always the case, look at Vesper and what the technowizards can do but.. she was born in Tolkeen and has more expenerience with the Coalition than she’s let on and that predjudice against and belief that tech is always inferior is hard to let go of.
Her attention returns for the rest of the story though and Megana blinks. A hundred years ago? Interesting. The Shifter’s lips quirk. “Which hell? I mean they all usually got levels.” She isn’t sure she’d consider the one who lost the loser in that fight really, if they laid a curse down that powerful and now only their line can use the thing. Meg is watching Slaine eye Aiden. Heh. She wouldn’t wanna be him later. He probably should have mentioned some of this to the Mystic before hand. “Interesting story. Hasn’t anyone ever tried to fix it? Or were they really that good?” She’d always wanted to know about powerful curses and spells.
“No that’s true but Moira McClellan claimed to be Danu’s granddaughter and she was powerful enough that the council believed her. What else she may have done I don’t know but she’s on a list of people I have that are to be granted direct access to the Council of Learning if ever they should show up in the city and that list is very, very short.”
There’s a short pause.”To answer your question, though, Megana, Archmage McClellan’s curse was both potent and subtle. Or this is what I’m told. I’m not a mage. I just keep the peace around here.” Silvermane takes another turn. In the distance there’s a large and fairly ‘modern’ looking building that from the iconography of it is attached to a police station of some kind. Or has one in it. Something. It’s a big building so if it is all ‘station’ then there’s a lot there.
“From the stories, though, the ‘innermost hell’ is this one.” Aiden taps on his temple. “The private hell everyone keeps in their mind, full of doubts and recriminations and personal demons. Allegedly the curse is a powerful piece of goetia.”
That may or may not make sense to Meg and Slaine. There are lots of kind of magic out there.
“If I don’t mistake Aiden’s mind…” The wolfess continues. “… he’s thinking that someone able to wield the Crown might be able to disrupt an entity that can control the minds of a swarm of vermin and give others a chance to hurt or contain it.”
“That’s more or less the idea, yeah…” Aiden murmurs. He saw the way Slaine looked at him just now. And he knows he’s in for it later.
So that’s Aiden’s plan. Give Slaine a power boosting artifact and get her to engage the Rat King in psychic combat – possibly with Miss Frizz and Yaren – while he and Megana and whomever else deals with the Bunyip and any rats that have to be dealt with.
It might be a good plan if it weren’t for this whole curse business.
So much Slaine hasn’t been told about her past. It makes her wonder. Makes her wonder what really happened in Vanished Point two years ago. Makes her wonder what really happened to her parents. She’s quiet though as Silvermaine explains. She knows what Aidens’ thinking – she would have done same with that piece of knowledge.
“An’ how will I know if I can use this artifact without goin’ mad?” That’s a logical question and probably expected. Though Slaine suspects she’s not going to like the answer.
Megana nods her thanks at Silvermane’s explanation but the Shifter visibly pales at Aiden’s. That truly is a hell and a helluva powerful and subtle curse. Demons and hells are definitely horrible but they’re also often..predictable, similar and with her powerset usually escapable or able to be used or taken advantage of or bargained out of or whatever. A private hell of your own making in your own mind.. it’s fucking brilliant and horrible and her estimation of this Danu person’s power slips quietly over into awed reverence.
However now that she’s heard about the curse and how it works Meg looks at Aiden for a long moment with an unreadable expression. She’s thinking about how risky this is for Slaine if she isn’t of this Danu line for sure. Or if she can’t control it even. The Shifter is less worried about that bit because Slaine has a definite force of will but.. Yeah. Meg uses people, a lot, often with little to no regard for the effect on them. Those people though are always the ones that don’t matter to her and she is surprised, even a bit shocked by the sudden realization that this is not a plan she would have come with herself or even likes because of the possible risk to Slaine and Slaine is important to her. Meg considers herself to be kinda a dark ruthless bitch and that Aiden has come up with a plan that she wouldn’t have has her looking at herself in bemused light. She didn’t used to be like this, what happened?
“You ate so many hearts you finally got one of your own.” Lli Chibt mutters. Megana hisses at him in a foul sounding language and he quiets but still grins to himself. Her discomfiture over the fact that she isn’t such an evil witch as she always thought amuses him to no end.
“Well…” Aiden hedges for a moment.
“You put it on and see what it does.” Silvermane says over her shoulder. “If it helps, women usually have a much easier time of it than men and there have been a number of women not of the bloodline who have been able to use it without ill effect over the short term…” But yes. That’s how you tell if the curse will take effect. You poke the bear with a stick and see if it roars.
“But it doesn’t matter just at the moment. We still have to convince the council to let you at it and that means I need to go see them.” The wolfess points to the building they’re now nearing. “Official housing. I’ll set you up with rooms while I go see the people in charge. I have a feeling that your grandmother’s name will open some doors though, Miss McClellan.”
Yeah. That’s what Slaine was worried about but she see’s no use in worrying. She would do it anyway, if it helped Vesper and her friends. If she went mad. Well, Aiden would just put her down.
She’d asked him that a while ago.
“Alrigh’. How long will we have to wait?” She was a free agent for the most part but … she did have responsibilities.
Megana starts considering the mind healers she knows and the places she might attempt to hide Aiden and then herself from Gran if this goes wrong. Always good to plan ahead and now that she has a place to start.. The Shifter is pretty sure Slaine will try to do this if given the opportunity though not for the same reason Meg would. ‘I’d try it just to see if I could do it, although I gotta admit if only to myself I don’t think I’d risk this one. Being trapped in my own private mind hell?? No fucking thanks. Not that what happened that first time was a hell but.. nope! Not a thing I’d wanna risk. She’ll wanna help though and since I’m bein privately honest here.. I do too. Vesper is home now.
She isn’t aware of that particular conversation between Slaine and Aiden although Meg has spent quite a bit of time watching the two whether they know it or not. She would prob ably be surprised though. Her solution would definitely not involve putting Slaine down. Locking her away maybe, but then that is within Meg’s abilities most likely and she is a little more used to and accepting of insanity than a lot of people.
“A few hours. This will be important.” Silvermane turns, looking toward the center of the city. “And I’d better get started. You all make yourselves comfortable. And don’t do anything… outragous.”
Aiden snorts and watches as the wolfess strides off. “Well… shall we?”
A jaunt to Lazlo has something interesting being revealed about Slaine and a request for an artifact to aid in their fight with the Rat King.
