There had been a great sense of relief after freeing the others from those damned dolls at last. Knowing they needed to recover and in need of some time herself, Megana had disappeared into her tower after seeing the others home. Channeling so much dark energy has…effects on her. More so than usual of late actually. Feeling rested and a quite a bit less edgy after a three days of sleep and a night of hunting the Shifter has made her way to Gran’s in search of Kaji. They have some things to catch up on she thinks and she owes him a birthday present!
Quietly slipping inside, her dark hair in a braid down her back and wearing a long sleeved, ankle length velvet dress with a corsetlike top and matching slippers Megana pauses near the door to search for the young necromancer. She’s carrying a basket clutched in her hands full of candies and an assortment of knives and a small potted cactus. Her idea of a get well basket it looks like.
Having something no longer leeching off your energy is greatly relieving. While Kaji still hasn’t been able to completely shake the tired feeling, he’s definitely more or less his perky self, not subject to random naps nor nonstop yawns per hour.
He’s just finished washing dishes for his shift, stepping out into the common room from the kitchen with a freshly baked roll of bread held in his mouth while he wipes wet hands on his jeans. Seeing Megana, he raises his hands to wave. “Hey Mehu!” he greets around the roll.
Laughing softly upon seeing him, Megana strides across the room to set the basket on the closet table and scoop Kaji into a hug. “The basket is for you. It looks like you are feeling better though. I’m so glad we got rid of those freaking things finally. Now we just need to find who sent them. I’m gonna have *words* with that person.” Her tone suggests words are the least of what she’s going to have when she catches up to the one who made those dolls. Or sent them. Probably both. The Shifter is pretty thorough when she works and especially when her family is threatened or hurt.
“Oh and I have a present with you but I couldn’t bring it with me. You have to pick it yourself. If you want it. That was the second reason. I didn’t want to just spring this on you in case you weren’t interested.” She says mysteriously. Should he be worried? “How are you doing though? I was a little out of sorts with some stuff so it took me til now to make it back here but you have to feel better now that’s done, yeah?” Meg asks a bit worriedly. She knows it will likely be a while before they are all fully recovered.
Kaji returns the hug enthusiastically before moving to pull the bread from his mouth. He chews the bite he’d ripped from it, stuffing the rest into the pocket of his hoodie. “Sooo much better,” he agrees, before wrinkling his nose. “Uck, I have no objections with that.” He’d been pretty fed up with the whole doll problem. Whoever thought it would be fun to pull that creepy stunt on him and his friends was seriously asking for it.
Of course, his ire towards the yet unknown culprit behind the doll fiasco is easily relinquished as he peers curiously at the basket that Megana’s brought. If he were a puppy his tail would wagging so hard it’d fall off. He loves presents!!!
“-oh?” That there’s a part two to presents definitely draws his attention back to the Shifter. There’s no way he’s not interested given the look on his face, if only because he’s super curious. There’s not a speck of worry in his eyes.
With the questions asked, Kaji reins in his excitement, although he does sneak a hand towards the basket to poke through its contents. “I’m okay, I think. I mean, I probably should take care of other things soon but not having an evil doll thing draining me is always good.” But Megana said something that does have him looking back at her, just as concerned. “You okay?”
Megana grins. His cheer is catching that’s for sure and the remains of her dark mood fade as she settles next to him. “I went looking around to find what I hoped would be the right thing or that you would like anyway and it took a bit. Then it took some more time once I found it. I thought that maybe you’d like to have..” She pauses for a second because she doesn’t want to bring up things he might rather not think of but there isn’t really a good way to not do that with this. “Uhm. Well.. would you like a kitten? I found a pregnant cat and she had a good litter and they’re just now grown enough for you to pick one.”
She nervously fidgets with the folds of her dress, inwardly bemoaning the lack of visible weapons to fidget with. Making others nervous always makes her feel better but there is nothing frightening or worrisome about some lady fiddling with her clothing. Ah well. Gran’s isn’t the place for that sort of behavior anyway. People here know exactly what she is too. “And uhm, they are totally normal. Not like, demon cats or anything. There’s eight of them. All different colors.” She pauses again and then looks away. “I’m okay.” Her skill in lying and deceiving does not seem to extend to Kaji and she knows it.
There’s absolutely no doubt about how Kaji feels as his eyes practically light up, and if there’d been any lingering weariness clinging to him, it for the moment seems to burn up by his 100-watt cheer. He tries not to bounce on his heels. “When can we see them? How’s the mom doing?” he asks eagerly.
He manages to dial down his happy explosion at Megana’s hesitant response. It’s…not completely unexpected. Typical response from most people, really. Of course, it doesn’t make him any more reassured. Kaji peers at her, giving her an exaggerated frown. “Meeeg….”
Whoo! Megana looks back at Kaji and grins. She had been a little worried about this plan and is relieved that he’s excited and not at all sad. Yay! “We can see them whenever you want. The mom is fine but starting to get frazzled. Eight is a lot and she’s taken good care of them but is ready for some peace and quiet.” And just because it’s Kaji she made extra sure. “I communicated with her to be certain so you wouldn’t have to worry about that and she knows she might even get to see whatever one you pick again is happy about that.”
Aw frick. His expression of magic “makehertellall” is in effect. Oh and that tone of voice. Whyyyy whyyy. Fifty something years of iron willpower and self control and she is utterly done by one kid. Though he’s looking less and less like a kid these days. Meg grins to herself but then sighs. “I guess I do need to tell you. I mean, I know I do. You are one of the only people that I am sure can bring me back when I lose it. “I’ve been noticing some weird things happening lately. Not weird for me exactly, cause I’ve always been kinda shady but.. I don’t usually have blackouts and wake up covered in gore. Or comment on how delicious dark magic tastes. I was kinda freaked actually. Some other strange things were happening though that finally gave me a clue where to look and figure out what was wrong though.”
Kaji laughs. “Well, kittens can be a handful, especially eight of them,” he grins. “Good to know. Can we go now, or is now not a good time? Oh, but maybe I should put the basket away if we do that…”
It can wait for now, however. His bubbling about kittens is suddenly flicked off like a switch as he eyes Megana, waiting for her explanation. And he gets it, for which he’s grateful for as she can be honest with him, but how she starts things off is what makes him more worried. His brow furrows, but he listens, his frown more serious than the earlier one he’d sported.
“How many times has it happened? When did it start?” he asks. “…so…did you figure out what was wrong?”
“I had to go down into the sewer where that rat king was. I found out we’re all screwed here again. This city is cursed or something. Seriously.” She waves a hand though, that can wait. “The nexus of leylines down there is badly corrupted. It called to me. I really wanted to use that power but I didn’t. I mean, really really wanted to. More than I should have. I’m not sure when it started but recently. I might not have noticed myself getting more angry or wanting to do dangerous stuff more than usual for awhile, it’s not that out of character but it was not hard to see Lli Chibt acting strange at all and he has been. Way more eager to help me with little stuff than he should be, not trying to murder or maim John, cuddling with this stuffed fish toy he found. Writing terrible poetry about Slaine.. just some really undemonic stuff.”
“So I did some inward focused meditation and visited with someone I knew might be able to see what I suspected was right. It’s not the safest thing choosing a demon for a familiar. Normally it’s likely to try to kill you and turn on you eventually for one thing and it will definitely try to corrupt you. Only I was kinda already corrupted, Lli Chibt is a very young demon, and we were both so afraid for our lives when we bonded that we seem to have..over done it slightly. So I guess I’m sorta channeling him sometimes and he’s channeling me. Or at least, we are taking on each other’s traits.”
Meg scowls a little. She doesn’t like knowing she’s not so incontrol of herself. It was hard enough holding back and fighting her darker urges as it was. Now she’s got some serious demonic energy to deal with as well. “So if I wanna be a little more murdery than I should or get a little too scary, just smack some sense into me, okay? I might need it. I’m doing okay so far. I didn’t hurt anyone who didn’t deserve it. But..” She’s a bit worried. “We can go see them whenever you want! Now is totally fine.” The Shifter smiles. She didn’t want to be a downer or add to their troubles. “And right now things are good.” Except for the whole annihilation thing they need to solve but that is starting to become normal.
It’s Kaji’s turn to fidget as he hears Megana out. He’d only heard about how the whole rat problem had been dealt with. That there’s still something else lingering- well, okay, around here it seems there’s always something.
“…well I’m glad you’ve been able to watch yourself. But…yeah, that’s not good. Why’s there always something lurking around?” he sighs. Mentally he notes to be careful if they ever have to go traipsing around the sewers again if there’s something of dark influence about. As he’d been so unhelpfully reminded by the Finder, he still possesses a touch of Darkness himself.
Kittens will make everything better. Kaji nods. He’ll think more on the other things later. It’s obvious Megana’s eager to shift subjects, and they’ve just gotten one problem solved. Best they relish the peace while they can.
“Okay then. Lemmee go put this basket in the kitchen and then we can go?”
The Shifter smiles and nods. “Of course! I’m so glad you’re excited about this and they are real cats. Not like Benny being a vampire rat or tiger cubs or whatever.” Though.. “I would totally find you a tiger if you wanted one.” That sort of reminds her of something. “Have you thought about getting a mount of some kind any? I know I can Rift us most places but I’m not always here when you need to go somewhere and there are some areas like Saren’s Rest and Vanished Point where I can’t do that at all. It could be fun for you too and it never hurts to learn how to take care of them. Your life could depend on it some day. What if you are traveling in a group and whoever does that dies but then you accidentally over water your horse or whatever?”
She comments as Kaji returns and they head out. “Oh! and where did you get that.. that light sword thing?? It was very cool. Very useful. I think it suits you.” She smiles and puts an arm around Kaji. “Handily enough it’s not that far where we are going. Two streets over and maybe eight blocks down. We can walk it or I can just Rift us.”
He has to laugh a little at that. “As cool as I think it’d be, I don’t know if I’m qualified to be a tiger tamer,” Kaji admits. Then he blinks. “A mount? Never really crossed my mind. Guess I can see your point though. Usually we end up taking vehicles out to places. I thought the skycycles we used in the Appalachians were pretty cool.”
Trotting back out from the kitchen, he blinks at the question and then grins. “I made it! Had to go find the parts and stuff for it. We took rifts to another world and even went to this abandoned ship out in space!” His excitement kind of wavers a bit as he recalls the last. It would have been more enjoyable if the thing hadn’t been… Well, he supposes that technically the thing was haunted. He’s got the souls to prove it.
“Erm, anyway, Ardul had one and it reminded me of something I heard of from back home, so I asked if she could show me how to construct one. I guess the technical name for it is a plasma blade.”
A shrug. “Whichever you want. I’m fine with walking!” he assures.
Gifted with candies and the promise of a kitten, Kaji catches up a bit with Megana now that they've both recovered from the dopple-dolly dilemma.
