Aiden, Kaji, Slaine and Elpida have been on something of an adventure. And by adventure we mean ‘desperate attack on a ritual to summon a being hostile to life as we know it on Rifts Earth’. After a harrowing journey through a dream land Aiden had called a halt to catch their breath. That had a second purpose though. It enabled other allies to catch up to them. Those allies would, hopefully, not have to take the same rainbow snake alternate dimensional tunnel that they did. One of them is a Shifter after all.
Aiden has passed the time checking his weapons. He took his ion gun apart, verified everything and put it back together. Not because it needed it, really, but just to give him something to focus on other than ‘desperate last chance attack.’
“They should be here soon. I hope.” He says in the darkness of the partially collapsed sewage tunnel. “The Vesper Army units should be just about in position.”
Slaine’s mage lights bob in the air around them. There’s not many and the light they cast is paltry really. The small redheaded Mystic is sitting with her back against a wall next to Aiden and it looks like she might be napping. Or meditating. Hard to tell really.
At Aiden’s words though, her eyes open and she looks at the psychic “Then what’s the plan?” She shakes her head quickly “I know, we need to wait for the others so ye’re not repeatin’ yeself… ”
“How’re you two holding up?” That’s to Kaji and Elpida. The Goddess that accompanied them? Slaine’s not sure where she went to, but it’s got the little Mystic worried.
It’s difficult waiting when you’re on some vital mission. Kaji’s tried his best not to fidget. He’s slipped out his spear to do a few close-quarters moves while it’s still in its portable, shorter form, just roughly the length of his forearm. His jacket being inverted to darker colors, he blends with the shadows within the sewage tunnel where Slaine’s light doesn’t reach. Just like a ninja…! -he keeps that thought to himself.
“I’m…fine as can be, I guess,” the young necromancer says as he looks over at the redhead. He slips his weapon back into its sheath at his thigh. “What’re we doing once they get into position..?” He glances towards Aiden, his question on the heels of Slaine’s.
Speaking of Rifts… one opens nearby and a certain easily identifiable Shifter steps through. Her long dark hair is pulled back in a tight braid and she seems dressed for battle in dark blue and black leather gear, an assortment of knives and other objects hidden beneath her duster.
There’s a snarling coming from behind the woman and a wicked looking little creature with black armored chitin standing on two solid legs with very short arms and a rather monstrous head trots in front of her. A hefty looking imp is perched on the monsters back and it gives the impression of being very annoyed by this fact. The imp looks positively thrilled. “Hey bitches, sup?” Megana grins then glances at her shoulder then the other, then behind here, wait where’d her little friend go…?
That’s written all over Elpida’s face. She is anxious as hell. She just traveled through realms of reams and craziness with a Goddess at her back and walked across a giant basilisk. And then Megana arrived with a ‘sup bitches’ and a demon behind Her.
She just sits down.
Her hands go up into her snakes.
<~ Miss Meg, you’re a good friend, but can we please NEVER travel like that again? ~> Miss Frizz’s telepathic words are easily detected by everyone, and the mouse herself is clinging to the Shifter’s braid with all she’s got — that means her teeth as well as all of her claws and her slightly prehensile tail. She would almost have preferred to travel by Appleby-back than this.
Once it seems like they’re back somewhere that at least smells vaguely familiar, Suss clambers up and back onto Meg’s right shoulder. <~ Oh! Hello, Miss Slaine. Kaji. Mr. Vargr. Miss Elpida. ~>
She honestly wasn’t expecting to see them when Meg asked her along.
Headed through rifts, through dimension, to get from one place to another can be very… tricky. Shifters are better at it than most and at least they can always get home, but seriously, it’s not easy and one can hardly blame Miss Frizz for being a bit… frizzled…
Aiden looks at the demon/creature/d-bee/thing that’s with Meg and pulls himself to his feet.
“Alright. We’re all here. In just a few minutes the Vesper Army will begin it’s attack. There is no way they can break through the zombies and the wall in time to disrupt the ritual, but they can force the Harvesters to send most of their zombies to defend them. Once that happens we move in. Persephone, Elpida and myself will concentrate on dealing with any defenses. Slaine, Meg, Kaji. Your job will be to follow us in, disrupt the ritual and kill as many Harvesters as you can. Miss Frizz… you’re likely to go unnoticed which means I need you to find a crack in the wall on the far end of the circuit and bring it down so that our military friends can get inside and help us.”
It’s a mouthful to be sure. But it’s a fairly simple plan. “Any questions? Concerns?”
Slaine nods to Kaji and Elpida as they answer her. She hadn’t expected anything else really. Megs arrival and that ‘pet’ of hers just gets a raised eyebrow. She doesn’t respond to the creature. “Hello Miss Frizz. I’m glad ye coul’ make it. We need all the help we can get.”
Her attention turns to Aiden as the psychic speaks, noting the return of the Goddess as the others arrive. “Got it. Kaji, me and Meg.” she gives the young necromancer a slightly ill look. They know what they have to do. “Guess I’ll be needin’ this then….” from her pack she produces a beaten metal circlet that she puts over her brow. “If things go to plan, I won’ burn anyone but the Harvesters …”
Slowly she stands. “I’m ready when ye are, Vargr.”
“-Megu!” Kaji grins in relief when he sees her appear, although he does have to blink at the little creature she’s brought- aside from the usual imp. “Whoa…” He sounds waay too interested in the thing. But now’s probably not the time.
He glances at Elpida as she sits, reaching out to pat her awkwardly on the shoulder. With his free hand he offers Frizz a wave. “Hey Miss Suss,” he says, before nodding towards Aiden as the psychic begins to lay out their planned tactics.
His expression grows serious as he listens, if not a little nervous as he can’t help but be reminded of that dreamwalk he and Slaine had been subjected to, back at Gran’s. They know what they’re potentially facing, and it’s not a pleasant thought. Those butterflies in his stomach are back in full force. Swallowing, he nods. It’s not like they can say no, not that they’ve come all this way to do that.
Seeing Slaine don the circlet, Kaji pats his jacket, filling the outline of the fan tucked within the inner breast pocket. He doesn’t take it out right now, but he hopes to be ready to do so when needed.
“Now or never, I guess.”
“Oh Sorry Miss. It gets easier, I promise. Or you get used to it.” Probably. Meg thinks. She’s never had any adverse reactions to Rifting herself but she’s been able to do it for so long and it always came so naturally for her.. but if you do anything enough times you get used to it, she’s sure. “I uh…” Meg eyes Elpida. “I’m not sure you’d like how they got here either”, the Shifter muses. Though Elpida does seem to get a bit rattled by things that Meg doesn’t find disturbing…buuuut that tends to happen to most people when confronted with things she finds normal or not upsetting so.. Meg shrugs a bit. “Kaji!” Megana darts forward, deftly sidestepping her little minions minions and hugging him tight. She reaches an arm towards Slaine but turns it into a pat on the Mystic’s shoulder midmove. “Hotstuff.” She greets Aiden, then gazes at Persephone and nods before shutting her trap to listen to the battle plan. A slight frown crosses her face. Kill Harvesters. She has zero problems with that, Kaji on the other hand, Meg eyes him worriedly but then smiles. “It’ll be okay.” Is she attempting to reassure him, or herself?
That smile turns to include Slaine once Meg notices her ill look, though the Shifter seems somewhat surprised by it and then a bit disquieted herself. She’s so looking forward to this fight but it’s occurring to her now that the others are not and she hopes they won’t think too badly of her for it.
“Gwah!” The telepathic mouse’s arrival is enough to startle her. She’s still not used to, you know, PSI-MOUSE speaking in her head.
“H-hi,” she manages to offer, breathless. A snake stats to snap at Kaji’s hand but she grabs hold of it instead.
“DAmn things. Uh, hi Meg. Hi, uh.. everyone.” That includes the mouse.
Miss Frizz’s brown eyes look at each person in turn, and when Aiden tells her what he wants her to do, she bobs her head in a nod then takes a moment to remove the bit of red cloth she wears like a cape partly for warmth and partly so the staff at Gran’s recognize her easily.
<~ Will you hold this for me, Miss Meg? I’m ready, Mr. Vargr. ~> She looks over at Elpida, but only for a moment as Meg’s rushing over to hug Kaji hello makes staying on the Shifter’s shoulder a momentary challenge. She considers hopping over to Kaji’s shoulder, then proceeds to do so if only because his clothes are made of some material that she has an easier time keeping a grip on.
Outside there’s a loud ‘snap’ of laser fire. As if that’s a signal the air is soon filled with the rapport of distant weapons fire. Aiden looks up and toward the noise.
“Alright. It’s time. Come on.”
Thanks to previous scouting Aiden leads the group through a picked, relatively safe path that winds them up on a slight rise overlooking the ‘bowl’ that had been the race track before the coming of the rifts and is now a make shift fortress and ritual ground. To the south, laser, rocket and ion shots stream out from several prepared strongpoints in buildings, eating away at the barricades and scrap-wall on the far side of the bowl. Zombies – enough of them that the ground is black with them – stream out of the make shift fortress. There must be… ten, twenty thousand of them. More than the few hundred Vesper soldiers. A lot more. And even so there are still hundreds, maybe thousands of zombies inside the bowl and Harvesters in the center of it arranged around some kind of ritual circle. Dozens of them.
“Okay. The ground is mined there, and there. Keep to the low, sunken water courses and you’ll avoid them. Once we’re in try to stick with your groups. If you get separated take as many down with you as you can. If you have any final words or… prayers… now is the time.”
Persephone gives Aiden a dry look and the psychic shrugs.
“Alright. Here we go.” The air near Aiden ripples… and then he’s off at a run.
Slaine leans aways from Megs embrace, shaking her head at the woman “Just need to focus and gather myself. It’s good to see ye…” she murmurs, before nodding at Kaji patting his pocket. “Ye and me then.” When she see’s Frizz trying to settle on the youths shoulder, concern flashes across her face. “It might get warm there, Frizz. Be ready to move jus’ in case… ” but she knows the rodent will be gone, hopefully long before she and Kaji have to do their thing.
Half Pint stops dead though as they make that overlook. “There’s so many…” the words are almost strangled. “Meg, when Kaji and I light them up, take advantage of it… ” She gathers the other two, gives Aiden a hug before he does his thing and heads down. Down into the hell they’re about to create. “When you’re ready Kaji … I can sense the flames already. It’s eager …”
“Yerk! Sorry hebi-chan, guess you guys are just as worked up,” Kaji mutters, yanking his hand back out of snake range. He’s shortly engulfed in a Megana-brand hug, and he reaches his arms around to hug her back. He won’t even try to fake a smile, but he does try to keep a brave face. “Be careful out there okay?”
Carefully he cups a hand over Miss Frizz once she’s on his shoulder, something of a hug for the little mouse. Aiden’s given her a big task, but he knows she can handle it. “You be careful too, okay Miss Suss?”
He nods at Slaine then, and as they are led by Aiden until they’re within sight of the battleground, he can feel that anxiety clutch at him.
This isn’t a dream or a memory this time. This is for real.
Kaji pulls out the fan, flipping it open with an almost practiced flick of his wrist. He swallows, then takes a deep breath in and out. “All right…” he says, watching as Aiden takes off. The fan is raised, poised in front of him although no one here would likely notice the resemblance to any traditional dances. He brings it out to his side, nodding again at Slaine. Time to move.
“May the force be with us,” utters Elpida, casting a grin towards Kaji.
She’s got the feeling, he’ll, you know, get the reference in this case.
Probably the only one aside from MAYBE the Goddess. Still, her eyes are then huge upon the horror. “So many of them. So many people…”
She swallows. Her snakes are up and hissing loudly, guarding her head in tight, defensive coils. She lets out a breath and then says, “I’m… ready.”
And then Aiden’s off and running. “Oh god damn–,” a pause. She glances at Persephone, “… oh frick?” she offers, sheepishly, and then she’s doing exactly what she has been told. She is panicking on the inside. A lot.
Elpida isn’t at all what Meg would have expected a Gorgon to be like and it amuses the Shifter to ends, especially since she should know by now not to have expectations about people and things. She likes the woman though and grins at her. “Hi.”
She pauses to regard the PSi-Mouse and then nods. “It would be an honor Miss Frizz.” Meg answers seriously and carefully tucks the bit of cape into a pouch hidden beneath her duster and attached securely to her belt. Then she smiles once more at Kaji and whispers “You too” before letting him go.
Meg isn’t a follower of the Greek gods, and she isn’t here today as a Priestess of her own Dark Lady, she’s here as a Shifter with a vested interest in saving the earth…which is a rather weird feeling. Funny actually and she laughs softly, gazing down at the Harvesters with an expression of diabolical glee as she considers her approach. Maybe she will die, it’ll happen sometime and fifty odd years is pretty good for a Shifter.. but she’ll sure as Hell or Hades take some of them with her and just maybe ensure Kaji’s new home is safe from this threat and that is all that matters. Besides there aren’t a lot of things she enjoys more than killing, or using her power. Here she has free reign to do both. “THose aren’t people anymore.” Meg utters helpfully. She hopes. Her imp and the creature he rides finally catches up and Lli Chibt stares down. “Oh hell no..man. We’re gonna die. We are so gonna die. Welp. Fu-ow hey!” He smacks at the fanged tongue head that darts out of the alien monsters mouth and tries to bit him in the face. “Save for the chow down there.”Suss braces her feet and digs her claws into Kaji’s shoulder as they all take off running. She’s as gobsmacked as Elpida as the sheer SCALE of everything, but she opts to keep quiet and concentrate on not losing her grip and falling. She uses the moments to study the wall that she’s supposed to take down, trying to decide where the best place to shove a hole into that scrap wall.
Even the imp and mini t-rex’s antics don’t successfully distract her.
As they run the noise gets louder. It’s not just the munitions and weapons. It’s the moan of the Xombies, the chanting of the Hunters, the metallic creaks of a wall under fire but still holding.
And then they break into the bowl proper. It’s cold in here. Cold enough for frost to be over everything. Aiden leaps into the air and comes down in the middle of the horde, a telekinetic blast knocking everything anywhere near him back a solid twenty feet. Persephone rushes past him into that gap and lays into the nearest group of zombies with her spear. They just… crumble like so much soft dirt. Elpida has an opening, as do the others. It may not last long, but it’s there.
The world narrows for Slaine as they run, down to the path in front of her and the call of the Diadem. Despite the frost that’s everywhere, she can sense fires burning, hear the flames crackling and her hair starts to stream behind like fingers of flame.
Kaji and El might know of a movie, that Slaine is starting to resemble the title character.
“Now, Kaji…” she murmurs as she turns towards the breach, hands pointing to the first group that appears before them. As the flame dragon appears around her in answer to Kaji’s fanning, flames spurt out and strike at them. The frost melting around their feet. “… more Kaji. Give me more …” It’s possible the accidental necromancer can feel her tugging on his fanning.
Anyone close to them isn’t going to be feeling that chill, they’ll be feeling the flames that the Mystic is generating.
Kaji grins briefly in El’s direction before they’ve separated to their named teams. It’s all business now. He tries not to let himself be overwhelmed by the numbers of the things they face, sweeping the fan across him, using his entire arm to move the air around him at Slaine’s signal. He can feel the flames beat back the chill of the area that they’ve set foot within as he continues to literally fan the flames.
His other hand slips into another pocket, pulling out a string of sticky notes, all scrawled upon. He sends them flying, borrowing the winds as they scatter towards Harvesters to bombard them like bombs upon contact. Granted they don’t get accidentally incinerated first.
Megana considers the zombies. Fire sounds good and she toys with the thought of calling for a lord of the flames but she doesn’t want to risk her friends. She thinks she could reach an agreement with one given some time, this kind of fight is the kind of thing it’d love but she’s short on time and has never tried to control one before. Besides fire isn’t her style, but rather the opposite. She grins and steps into the shadows, melding with them in one of her favorite spells.
The Shifter draws her daggers and darts into the fray, intending on arriving in the Harvesters midst unseen and stabbing into vital spots as many times as she can the moment the flames start. They’ll be looking at that, not in their own midst and she’s got at making herself unseen.
Meg seems to have given her minions reign to do as they will and the t-rex alien bucks the imp off, tucks itself into a hard ball and begins a roll down the hill towards the circle. Lli Chibt leaps to a zombies shoulder to get a better view cursing in a foul sounding language. He’s gonna kill that thing if it lives. Suddenly the imp grins. That does not seem likely. His eyes widen at Slaine. “Oooh lady. I’m in looooove~. No.. wait I’m a demon. I don’t love. I’m in.. lust. Yeah. That’s right I…” He pauses and stabs into the zombie’s eye when it starts reaching for him and leaps to another shoulder. “You didn’t hear that love stuff mkay?” He stabs this one through the ear.
What’s up with Slaine?
Elpida is staring at her like with huge eyes. HUGEST EYES. If they were any huger, one could mistake her for an anime character brought to life in the form of a Gorgon. She is surrounded by chaos and insanity, much like she has been since she’s come to Rifts earth, and there she has the two energy pistols she’s been using from time to time and there’s no shortage of targets. Like, you know, they’re everywhere.
PEW PEW PEW.
“AH OH GOD I’M GONNA DIE,” says Elpida, but she sees that hole. And she’s on her way towards it. She’s good at bumrushing an opening, powering through a zombie that gets in her way and all but running over another. A third is turned to stoen with a flick of her gaze and she just burs right through it, sending a shower of stone in all directions. “BLAUGH,” she says, heroically.
As soon as they’re passing through the scrap wall, Suss braces herself, then LEAPS off of Kaji’s shoulder and toward the wall itself. Her jump isn’t quite enough, though, so she ends up having to ‘push’ herself away from the ground so that she doesn’t miss completely. Once she’s safely inside the maze of the wall’s structure, she makes her way through as fast as she can in the direction she thinks is the correct one to break an opening and create a place where the Vesper troops can get through. And maybe, if she REALLY tries, she can use pieces of the wall to help fend off the yucky people.
Xombies? Yeah. Those people.
This distance sure seems a lot farther now that she’s running under her own steam. She’s getting far too accustomed to travelling by human-shoulder. They can walk so much faster than she can.
Elpida has indeed no shortage of targets. It’s impossible to miss. Now the defenses for the Harvesters are swarming on her, Aiden and Persephone. Aiden turns one way, back to the gorgon and the goddess, trusting them to keep his six clear. His blades and pistol both flash. His telekinetic powers are on full display, picking up rubble or scything through the crowd of Xombies with amazing force.
Not that Elpida is doing poorly. A hail of weaponsfire clears her a space ten feet wide. Persephone winds up at her shoulder, returning to the Earth anything that gets too close.
“Give them Hell, my champion. Send them to my erstwhile husband.” The Earth-Goddess says with grim confidence in the seemingly quite nervous woman.
Slaine’s fire and Kaji’s fire utterly throw the Harvesters into confusion and give Meg the opening to start knifing people. But a small crack is already open in the world and they magi can feel the terrible will behind it. The Harvesters are starting to fight back, organizing into magical bubbles to try to withstand the fire bombs and the… fire drake – well drake made of fire – in their midst. The magi need to kill faster to keep Nxla out. But they’re off to a good start.
It seems like it takes forever but Suss does finally find a good crack to push on. This is… bigger than anything she has ever tried to lift or shove. It will likely take every bit of willpower in her. But it’s do or die at this point. Do or die in the most terrible fashion imaginable.
At least there are no xombie cats.
There aren’t, right?
“More Kaji…” Slaine’s too focused to hear what Megs ‘pet’ just said. Not that he wants to get too close, he’ll burn. Burn like the rest of the Xombies she’s targeting. “…. and stay here. Megana, when I make the opening, be ready. Kill them. Kill them all.” Is that really Slaine? Or is that something else within the Mystic? It sounds mostly like her, doesn’t it?
Moving quickly towards the middle of a group of bubbles, Slaine draws on that power again and causes the fire to flare. If she takes them out, that’s wonderful but really, weakening them for the other two to finish the job is what she’s trying to do.
Once they’re thrown into the heat of battle, it’s almost impossible to keep track of everyone. That’s a worrying thing, but Kaji trusts in the abilities of his friends. He also knows that if they don’t hold up their end of things, that it’s just as dangerous for everyone.
Slaine urges him to keep the winds stirred and he obliges, beating the air with the fan in powerful strokes. He hopes his arm doesn’t tire out, but at least they’ve practiced before, and they’ve only just started. Besides, adrenaline does wonders!
He keeps back at Slaine’s order, his eyes drifting towards her at the words she intones, and for a moment his fan strokes waver. But no, they…they have to push on. Just for now…
“THIS IS WHAT I GET FOR TRYING TO KISS A GODDESS,” says Elpida, loudly, in her current state of panic. “UH NOT YOU I MEAN,” she adds quickly to Persephone.
Just in case that wasn’t clear.
“NOT THAT YOU’RE NOT ATTRACTIVE OH GOD I NEED TO STOP TALKING.” Elpida babbles when she’s terrified and right now? Terrified.
When her energy pistols run out of ammo, and they do before too long with the sheer volume of targets she has to blast, she holsters them and is forced to rely on claws and gaze sheer brute strength to rend and maim, with sounds and sights that will haunt her for a long time to come. But the space is cleared by the magic and divinity and the psionics and more… and she zips right in there, covered in blood and viscera that she’s desperately trying to get off her hands, “EW EW EW EW OH GOD IS THAT AN EYEBALL OH FUCK.” She’s certainly giving them hell, her terror aside.”What the fuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!” The exclamation trails off into an agonized scream as the small monster hurtles into one of the Harvesters and the head-tongue seizes… it’s really best not to think about it if you actually caught a glimpse.
A wicked feminine cackle sounds from… somewhere and another falls with a spreading stain of blood on his back. There isn’t time to collect trophies and that’s a shame, a bloody damned shame but it can’t be helped. She slows as she feels the Will and shudders but it’s not entirely as effective against her as it might be others. She has been battling the Shadow’s Will her entire life if she gives in it won’t be to this thing. Megana punches out, slashing a throat and tucking to roll and come up stabbing out with both hands at another. IF anyone could see her, they’d likely found the outright joy on her blood spattered face unsettling. In comparison to that Will and the xombie hordes though.. perhaps not as much as it might normally be. At least she’s on their side? The Shifter blinks and catches and eyeball suddenly flying her way. Grinning, she tucks into a pocket. “Awesomesauce.”
There. Suss finds a weak spot in the wall and after finding a sturdy place to tuck herself into, she starts to ‘push’ against the crack in the wall. This considerably more massive than anything she’s attempted before, so she’s not even considering trying to use any finesse. She’s pouring raw determination into the effort, using every last gram of will in her little body to convince the wall to collapse inward.
Maybe it’ll land on someone when it finally breaks open.
“Is that why- we’ll talk later.” Persephone has other things to think about right now but now she has some inkling about why Athena cursed the woman. Which can only mean good things for Elpida, right?
Aiden is slowly giving way to the pressure, now less trying to keep the path clear and more trying to keep the wall of Xombies from collapsing onto the ones dealing with the real problem. The defensive perimeter is shrinking steadily though the pile of now definitively dead undead is quite large.
Elpida might have some more viscera to clean off herself. She’s got a bit more fighting to do.
Kaji, Megana and Slaine have killed enough now that the ritual is well and truly disrupted. Now they have to deny the Harvesters an exit plan and that might be more easily said than done. The leader plays one final gambit. He begins to open a rift. If they get away, they’ll surely be back. Maybe not here, but they’ll be back somewhere on Rifts earth and the world will be in danger once more.
The metal around Fizz groans and creaks and deforms. And then with an audible ‘ping’ of something flying loose and embedding itself in a Xombie’s leg, the entire structure for yards in either direction starts to collapse.
Of course some of that debris is now also coming down toward the little mouse that could.
As the Xombies fall around her, Slaine sees the Rift opening. “He can’t open it, Kaji. Take him down … ” She’s lost track of Meg and her familiar in the chaos. Reaching deep, drawing on her power, the firedrake’s eyes start to glow bright green. The flames flare and arcane symbols start to form as the drake speaks.
The symbols land on the earth around the leader and the Earth starts to tremor and shake. All the while the drakes flames lick out towards the caster, trying to burn him. This will likely cost the little Mystic. How, she doesn’t know.
Not good, not good, not good. There are no cursors or status bars to point out certain beings of interest in real life but sometimes people just do things that beg attention. In this sort of situation, it usually means nothing good. Okay, it definitely means nothing good.
Kaji turns, eyes widening as he sees what the Harvester leader attempts. He knows that can’t happen, or it’ll just start all over again.
He brings the fan down with emphasis, thrusting his free hand into his jacket pocket to pull out something else. It’s not paper this time, but some sort of crystal. He clutches it tightly in his hand, raising it in front of him even as he continues to beat the air below it with the fan to continue to feed Slaine’s flames. There’s no hesitation as he pools his focus and sends it out, the lead Harvester in his sight. Hopefully with the mage’s attention on the Rift opening, this won’t be as difficult as that mage in Dogwood.
The young necromancer swings his fan hand back, yanking back the hand bearing the crystal as he squeezes his fingers around it in a clutching motion, framing the act of pulling the Harvester’s soul in his mind, drawing it towards the crystal.
In all the history of the world, of any world where Gods are a thing, one telling you ‘We’ll talk later’ is the single most dreaded sentence any one of them can say to a mortal.
Moreover, any person in a position of authority saying that to anyone is going to make someone who’s as terrified as Elpida is sweat bullets. (Actually, a couple bullets from a harvester with a gun just rolled off her, so in this case, it appears more literal than metaphorical).
“HAHAHAHA,” she says, nervously, “I WAS TOTALLY KIDDING.” She wasn’t. “AHAHH-,” and that’s when it cuts off.
Rather, the snakes are telling her something intuitively. DANGER. She whips her head around towards Frizz and her rather precarious position as things are creaking and groaning and she lunges in that direction to save her, trying to use herself as shelter for the mouse and allow the debris to fall on her instead.
“If only Brian Jacques could see you now,” she mutters.
As the section of wall collapses, Miss Frizz allows herself a brief moment of triumph. But then… uh oh.
There’s a momentary telepathic mouse-scream that cuts off just as part of the collapsing section of wall hits her hiding place with a crunch.
Elpida can just make Frizz’s previous location before the whole thing comes down on top of her as well as the mouse. Good thing she’s supernaturally tough otherwise that might be the end of them both. As it stands she’s now just half buried in rubble but the Vesper army is starting to move in to her location, so at least she’s not exposed helplessly to Xombie attacks.
Also moments later Persephone is there, guarding her. No getting out of that talk by dying, it seems. Though, would that even work, considering who Persephone is and who she is married to?
The sudden rumble of the ground and fanning of the flames as it were incinerates many of the harvesters who remain and causes the rift to stutter and start to close before it is even half opened.
And then Kaji rips the leader’s soul out.
Which does not go as expected. Just like that the Xombies start to collapse but a fountain of sparks erupts from the man’s chest, many of them flying into the undead and seemingly… reviving them. Many more shoot skyward and vanish but what is left as the Army moves in is a crowd of confused people mixed in with a crowd of confused, muderous, leaderless Xombies.
It’s going to take some sorting out. But the hard work is done and the danger is passed.
Rifts Earth has been spared an apocalypse tonight.
Joined by Megana and Miss Suss, Aiden, Elpida, Kaji and Slaine join the battle as Vesper's forces assault the Xombie forces, fighting their way to the Harvesters before Nxla can be freed!
