Club Pandemonium is only open during Vesper’s nights. During the day there are sometimes a few workers inside, cleaning and doing prep for the nights but the owner wants the place to be an attraction, and a popular one, so he’s limiting the hours one can come for the moment. Megana has decided to take advantage of this to show Kaji around the club and let him explore and have some fun without an audience or a lot of things that he might not want to see or hear about. Plus, she knows he isn’t big on drinking or things like that.
“This is where I’m singing and the tower out back is mine now. There’s a room in it for you for whenever you want, if you wanna move out of Gran’s or just want a change of pace some nights. The bottom part is for pets and mounts and creatures or whatever. The top is the living area. But anyways.. this is the club. It’s nice huh?” Meg asks, a bit nervously. “I been thinking about it, when I first started here I had this persona like thing, Lady of Ice but.. after I heard some things.. I think I’m going to keep singing but.. as just me. Not as someone or something else. It’s harder sort of but.. better, I hope.”
Kaji’s never been to a club before, but he’s seen these kinds of places in movies. Even right now it feels like he’s stepping onto some kind of Hollywood set. He’s kind of glad that Megana’s able to show him around outside of business hours since he doesn’t have anything fancy to wear if he were to try coming by when the place was actually open.
“Oh, you’re gonna move out of Gran’s then?” he asks. “I’m glad you finally found a place!” He knows she’d been talking about it for a long time now. The invitation’s nice though, and something he’ll keep in mind, although he likes the atmosphere at Gran’s, and something to keep him busy with.
“This place is pretty awesome. I feel like I’m walking around in a movie.” He’d been a little cautious about wandering at first, but now he goes roaming by the bar and then drifting towards the stage as Megana points it out. “Well, it’s not unusual to make up a stage name kinda thing.” He glances at the Shifter. “I think it might be good though, being yourself. I can get how it might be harder, but I bet you can pull it off.”
“It’s just time. I need more room for my pets and things and to work magic and keeping the imp there.. she’s been kind about it but I know he upsets some people. I suck at cooking though so I’ll still be around a lot for meals and to just see you.” She hadn’t expected him to want to leave right away but he’ll have more space now at least and perhaps sometime in the future.. well it’ll be there.
“I’m glad you like it. You’ll hafta come by on some of the tamer nights, or like, early evening its a lot calmer. He’s trying to cater to alot of kinds.” Megana leans against the bar and watches Kaji explore with a smile on her face. “Well. I’m still going to use a stage name. But it’s a name that fits better. I used to be the lady of ice but not anymore. Now I’m gonna be Lady of Worlds. I got a special song and everything to debut.” She smiles again but it’s more hesitant. Slowly she’s warming up to this job but it’s still strange for her. “Thank you, for believing in me so much. It’s helped.”
“I’ll bet this place is awesome when it’s busy.” The necromancer eyes the stage in that way that people might have in just wanting to be able to stand up there to see what it looks like from such a perspective. “Ah, that’s a cool name! And I wanna hear you sing!” He glances back over at her, grinning.
Music is one of those things he misses hearing consistently in places. Maybe it’s because sometimes he still feels like he’s walking through some amusement park like Disneyland and expecting there to be thematic songs spouting from hidden speakers throughout Vesper. And with the lack of radio, the only music he can listen to is either whatever’s on his phone or live in random instances, like when Aiden was playing the guitar in his mock-serenade. Kaji’s mind still boggles at the fact that he’d been playing Disney love songs.
“Aw, always happy to help, Megu.” He beams. Megana really has changed a lot since he’d first met her.
“Of course you can. I don’t think I’d ever have agreed to this if you hadn’t been so encouraging. And yeah it get’s pretty packed later in the night but it’s a kinda classy place so I don’t think you’d be bothered even then, it’s just theres some drinking and smoking. Lotta dancing. Private games in the side rooms. Cards and stuff.”
The Shifter eyes the stage and shakes her head. She’s still surprised she is doing this. “I’m gonna record the song before hand, and then it’ll play and I’ll be up there doing a show in time with it, opening small Rifts so people can see other places and stuff. I think it’ll be cool. Or at least, different.”
His excitement seems to get her a little excited about the idea and the Shifter’s eyes shine. “Hey you wanna go up there? You totally can. No one is gonna mind right now.” It surprises her on a daily basis lately how different she’s become, and while she definitely identifies herself as a “dark” shifter now, in a lot of ways she’s become a good and better person beyond anyone who’d known her befores ability to fathom. After some of the things that happened, it’s really surprising she didn’t go full on evil and Meg knows it. Somehow she’s found more determination than ever not to take that path. Megana grins a little. “Thank you Kaji.” She repeats, knowing that he’s had a lot to do with it all.
He nods as she explains, like he expects no less than what she’d mentioned. It’s kind of exciting and kind of funny that no matter what era and place, there still seemed to be this kind of thing around.
“-oh, sweet! Kinda like Disneyland!” Kaji pipes as he looks back at Megana. Cooler than Disneyland, since it’d be actual magic. When she asks if he wants to go up on stage, his face practically lights up. Her permission given, he doesn’t hesitate to vault himself up onto the edge- or at least, that was the intent. It turns out just to be a touch higher than he’d expected, so he more or less rolls onto it than jumps. Still, he doesn’t let that kick his excitement down any pegs as he gets to his feet and turns about to look out towards where the tables and an audience would be seated. “Whoooooa….”
Megana has heard him talk about this Disneyland before and just nods. She doesn’t laugh when Kaji’s jump falls a bit short, just smiles because really it’s just so adorable and she loves his enthusiasm. “Yeah. I almost peed myself that first night. I just looked out at the crowd but in my mind I was seeing other stuff, and thinking about how what I was singing made me feel. Instead of all the people.”
She shivers a bit but then laughs softly. “It is a rush though, a different kind but definitely a rush. And I’m not the only singer and they have other stuff, different magi, and singers and musicians and sometimes things like skills, sword dancing or little plays or whatever. He’s pretty open to letting people who want try something to see if it is a hit or not. I’m not sure he’s had one of these places afore.” Megana watches Kaji look around with a happy expression. She’s still got mixed feelings about leaving Gran’s but at her age, she just feels it’s time. It’s time to try this. And Kaji isn’t a little for all she thinks of him as a son, the Shifter has realized especially of late he’s turning into a fine young man. If he wants to move in when he’s ready great, but it’ll probably do him good to know she trusts him just fine to be on his own and to decide what he wants instead of her just making up her mind to follow him and stay close.
“Ooh gosh, I don’t think I’d be able to stand in front of a crowd if this place is packed,” Kaji says as he squints at the rest of the room, trying to imagine it. “But they turn the lights down, right? So that helps you not see everyone at least…”
His eyes are roaming again as he looks around the rest of the stage space. “A variety show kinda place, huh? That’s cool. I think that’s a pretty good idea, especially if the owner’s not sure what might interest people.” Kaji for sure wouldn’t know, not with such a diverse crowd, and you couldn’t seem to get any more diverse than a place like Vesper!
“-ooh, is that a piano?!” It’s one of those things that just gets taken for granted. Like music, he’s found a lot of things he used to think of as commonplace, not nearly so much until when he comes upon it for himself around here. “Do they have bands in this city? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any. I think I heard some music coming out of a bar once, if you could call it that, and then there was that dance club place we first met- which was still kinda weird but cool I guess,” he babbles as he makes a beeline for the piano, just barely managing to stop himself from sitting down on the bench. He casts a look at Megana to see if it’s okay.
Megana nods. “It sure is. You can play with it if you want.” She smiles again watching him. “I am not sure if they do but I think he is working on trying to find or put a few together.” The Shifter laughs and climbs up the stairs at the side of the stage, heading over to lean against the bit of wall near the piano where the curtain starts to hide backstage.
“The lights out there were low, it did help and there were bright ones on me, that made it harder to see but I’d already been there and just knew how many people there were. So it was.. I was nervous. I reckon it turned out okay though. No one booed me anyway. I think it’ll go better now that I’ve decided to just be me though. I won’t be so limited. I can’t play any instruments myself, just sing. Had someone invisible playing that thing for me. So it looked like it was playing itself. It was great.”
Kaji settles onto the bench, looking over the piano again before he very carefully lifts the cover back from the keys. “Haha, well, I guess it’s hard not to be nervous when you know there’s so many people watching you. But…that’s good. Have you done a lot of shows, since?” he asks, even as he looks over the keys and stretches his fingers out over them. Sticking his tongue out a bit, he finally lets his fingers sink down upon them to play a chord, wincing a bit as he miss-positioned a finger or two, which he adjusts to make it sound more harmonized. “Ehehe… It’s been a while.”
“Just two. I’ve been busy, trying to find out more about that CS stuff and those dolls and that Justicar dude. Man, he is weird but.. so far not completely awful. And I’ve been uh.. trying to forge some new relationships.” Meg frowns a little but puts those thoughts away for later. “I also had a mine job to do, got that done though not the way I would have liked. Then I had to work out getting the tower..”
Which reminds her, “I’ve got some shopping to do. Augh. I need.. things. House things. And clothes things and to make trips to gather up the animals and pets and monsters I want to stable in there. Maybe a minion or two. Some of the beastmen and if I can convince her, maybe that bearlady or.. I dunno that poor guy I found out in these wastes and brought here. He’s very afraid but I bet he’d like it in there, he’d be safe.” She rambles a bit, considering all she has to do then quiets to watch Kaji. “Oh but wow. You are doing something. I’d just make noise. That’s pretty cool Kaji!”
“Wow, you really have been busy,” Kaji laughs. “I’ve just been glad to take things easy for a change. It seemed like I had to hit the ground running once I found myself in this place.”
He’s not sure why Megana thought Cal to be weird, but he thought the guy was okay. And at least he’d been eager to help out rather than incite someone else to look into things. Sanka’a sure liked doing that. Sure, they got paid, but a lot of the time Kaji wondered that they- that he particularly was qualified enough. He did like to be able to help out at least, but if he were honest, some of the stuff they went out to investigate was pretty scary!
“Sounds like a full house already!” He snickers, just shaking his head as he can’t even imagine how all of those creatures and things would fit. Maybe the tower’s really that big, or maybe she can do some kind of hammer space trick.
“Ueeh… I took lessons when I was little. I think it’s practically like an Asian family requirement.” He snickers and repositions his hands over the piano keys. “It’s kind of weird though. I don’t see much people playing instruments around here. I saw Vargr playing the guitar during that other festival they were having a few months back. Did you know he could play? I didn’t. But I knew the songs he was playing!”
He presses down on the keys experimentally, letting memory carry his fingers onto the next keys that needed to be played and on, a simple song of mediocre speed.
“I did not know he could do that. But I think its like, most people are too busy trying to just live. Work and feed and house themselves. The higher ups and more well off can afford stuff like instruments and music but they don’t usually go around playing it for the likes of you and me, y’know?” Meg answers before quieting to listen.
Music of any kind is usually a treasure, usually only because with some of the racial differences now, some sounds can be quite unpleasant to some ears but piano has always been a human thing. “That is very nice. I’m enjoying it. We’ll have to make sure you can come practice or just play around when you want. But now that you mention it, Aiden was a soldier or warrior I think. It’d be a valuable thing being able to play an instrument during downtimes. Entertainment yeah?”
Kaji nods a bit as he continues to play, not without a few wrong notes, but he’s still secretly pleased he can still remember to play something. “I guess that makes sense. It’s kinda sad though. Music’d be everywhere back home. You could just flip on the radio and listen to it, and you can’t have movies or TV shows or even video games without it. And sometimes in random places you’ll find people playing guitar or something outside, trying to get noticed or just trying to make some money… Ooh! And you can’t forget karaoke bars! That’s where people go in groups of like friends or even family I guess, and they can rent a room for a few hours and just sing songs to the instrumentals. …sometimes it doesn’t sound very good but it’s still a lot of fun.”
He sighs wistfully, but he grins at the memories. “I don’t know if I’d get any better. I’m not very good at improvising like some people might, and I don’t think that sheet music might be common around here, if books aren’t.
The point about Aiden does make sense, although it’s also just another surprise to the psychic, but Kaji’s glad that his talents aren’t all in fighting.
“Hm. Well I agree that it’s sad. It would be so amazing to just hear music whenever, and watching shows about people, that’s so weird to think about. And I know you miss it all but I.. I am glad you are here. So glad. And there are entertainments here, and so much magic. So many wonders. Maybe this place will be good for you to visit.”
Megana moves over and sits next to Kaji, leaning in to give him a hug. “It’s impressive that you can play at all. I’ll have to look if I can’t find this sheet music well maybe we can find someone who could teach you a little if you wanted. You don’t have to, just might be fun.” Meg is determined that Kaji won’t have to spend all his life just working to survive. She wants him to have time for fun and whimsy and friends and just, to live. It was one of the several reasons she had for getting that place. She’ll never charge him rent or anything and he’ll always have a place to live.. “Whatever you want to do in the future I want to help make sure you can do it. Because I care about you and just cause I can. If you wanna try and getinto the Academy or keep training with that Ardul lady and maybe join the guard or teach people to write or.. whatever. You’ll always have a place with me and not have to worry about making rent or anything. Whatever you decide I’ll support you.”
It always hurts a little, thinking about home. It’s like trying to pick out a ball from a stacked pyramid, where everything else will just fall right towards you once you’ve unplugged that hole. You can’t reminisce about one thing and not have a bunch of other connected things flood in after it. What with the Thanksgiving tradition having even still managed to bleed its way into things in the city, albeit without pumpkins (HOW COULD THERE NOT BE PUMPKINS??!), it’s been making Kaji a lot more homesick lately.
“…maybe,” he says, perhaps trying to convince himself. “Oh, it’s okay. I mean, even if you did find sheet music, there’s no guarantee I’d be able to play it. Some of those pieces are pretty crazy. You may as well be an octopus to have to play those, and yet there are great pianists who can do just fine with two hands.” Kaji chuckles a little. “Maybe it might be nice to learn again. I dunno. I might have more patience for it than when I was little, that’s for sure.” When you were little, who wanted to sit at a piano for a few hours when you could be playing outside?
“…I’m not sure what I wanna do yet. I haven’t even gotten to talk to the Professor again about studying, and it’s been a while since we stopped the Harvesters. But…I want to be able to hold my own. I know you always say to rely on you, but I don’t want to have to keep depending on everyone so much, either.”
Megana frowns then chuckles. “I meant, more, I’ll be supportive of whatever you choose but yeah I intend to support you the other way some too. I mean, I don’t expect you to be a lazybutt and never do anything but live in your room but that room is there for whenever you want or need it. It just means you’ll have more time to devote to whatever it is you want to do to make a living. You don’t seem the type to just sit around mooching forever. For one thing you care so much about people, and the world at large. Heck, you’ve even got me caring some.”
Megana shakes her head and then smiles and hugs him tighter. “I mean, I’m still me, so like I went to the Arena last night to see a show. It was these giant turkey bots, us against something Dogwood made. Not my favorite, I like live fights better but it looked like it would be interesting and hey watching the dogwood guys lose woulda been great, yeah? Well it went.. very poorly. One of them lost control and started into the crowd. I jumped up and started tryin’ ta save people an stop it without even thinking about it and not cause my show was interrupted cause I didn’t want the kiddos hurt or my friends! Elpida was there and Slaine an Aiden and some new.. personthing that I think Elpida new. Sure I acted all pissed off that I lost my beer and show when the guy came over to thank us but like.. I was really just mad that they got hurt. Elpida had splinters and those other people.. it just..” Megana blinks a bit. “Geeze. I am different. I still wanna kill those bot handlers tho. I mean seriously. Kill them good.” Her lips quirk. But cause they hurt people not cause they bored her or something. It is a change for the better. “Uh anyway.. You don’t worry about needing to depend on me. I kinda, I like that. I need that. You do so much for me, that I can do anything for you.. it gives my life purpose.”
Kaji stops playing, bringing his arms about to awkwardly return the hug. “Right now it just seems like I’ve got so much time and nothing that I know for sure that I wanna spend it on. I like helping out at Gran’s, and I guess I like the excuse of being able to go off and look into things too. I’m not sure how that’d balance out if I did school.”
Boy, this was such an almost mundane conversation save for the fact that it was a magic school and the things he looked into were potentially life-threatening. …then again that wasn’t so off from his internship.
“Whoa…turkey…bots?” Was that some kind of Thanksgiving theme? He’s kind of glad he missed it. He misses eating a big ol’ feast. And he would still be sorely disappointed for the lack of pumpkin pie.
“Good thing you guys were there, but…oof. Sorry to hear people got hurt either way. That’s terrible…” And obviously not winning any further points from Megana when it comes to Dogwood.
“Aw Meg. I’m sure you coulda found purpose without me around.” But he’s touched to hear it.
“It was in the Arena yeah. And I know you like being able to look into stuff but.. if you had schooling you might be able to do it better or safer? I dunno. Just something to think about.”
Meg considers Kaji’s last sentence for a few moments and shakes her head. “No. Not like I have, not with you. You’ve helped me change and gave me something to hold onto when I was lost. For a little bit there I was just gonna..fade away. I’m glad I didn’t and mostly it was cause I didn’t wanna leave you. Or fail you. It helps keep me being better than I was. You’re one of my reasons to keep fighting the darkness and the shadow.” She thinks for a moment. “It’s hard to get in there too, if they even accept you well, maybe they can work with you cause they’ll know you’re helping the city, yeah? I have no idea. You’ve done alot for people here though and really they should make exceptions but.. it’s not up to me.”
The suggestion of safety’s almost laughable if only because it seemed a little late considering everything that they’ve already gone through. There’s been a whole lot of not safe already. Yeah.
“…I’m glad you didn’t. I know you’ve changed a lot, and I’m proud of you, Megu.” He wouldn’t have ever thought that he’d be close friends with the Shifter as he is now. “You’ve always looked out for me too, even before we really got to know each other. Even now. So I should be thanking you.”
He shrugs then. “I’ll probably still talk to Professor Ingerhast to see what she might have to say about things, but yeah, I’m still thinking about it.”
“Good.” Meg hugs Kaji tighter for a moment and then lets go. “You never have to thank me. It’s my pleasure and I mean that. And whatever you do, I’m sure you’re gonna be great at it. You’ve changed some too you know.” Megana says thoughtfully and then nods.
“I mean it’s not like you were a little kid when you got here but you’ve grown some and grown up some more.” She grins a bit. “Turning a few heads already too. I’ve seen them.” Before he can get too embarrassed by that Meg switches the subject. “So Soltice is coming up.. is there something special you’d like to do? I want you to be happy then. Not just sad because..” Because it won’t be the same as where he came from. “We could hang out at Gran’s or maybe take a little trip or go shopping or I dunno.. fishing or hunting or..” He doesn’t seem to like drinking.. hm. “Camping? heh. Something different if you want or something you used to do? I don’t know.”
Oh, Kaji wasn’t going to deny that he’d changed. He’d found out he was a necromancer, for one. Got into….a lot of questionable and disturbing activities due to it, and it hasn’t been all fun. Well, okay, honestly necromancy wasn’t fun in general. He feels better that he hasn’t had anything triggering it or had to make use of it lately.
Of course, mention that he’s been turning a few heads gets a puzzled look from him. He’s been a little oblivious in that regard.
“Solstice? Oh, you mean like Christmastime? I mean…well, if Thanksgiving just passed then yeah, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that something’s still celebrated even in this day and age.” It won’t be the same either. Sure, he’s been away from home for the holidays here and there, but never…never like this. “…I dunno. Oh gosh, no camping. I think I’ve done enough of that with all the trips out and looking into things,” he laughs.
“I’m honestly not too sure what other people around here do. I never would have payed attention. I do Solstice. Cause the village I was in for the longest as a kid did. And it fits with my religion too. I do some special stuff for the Lady but like, we don’t have to go dancing naked under the moon or anything this time. It’s not a requirement.”
Megana smiles gently. She knows it’s hard for him, it’s why she wants to try to make it as nice as possible. She already knows what she’s getting him as a present. “That is true I suppose but camping for fun is different thank job camping. Still we don’t have to. Whatever you’d like! There’s probably a festival or something. I .. honestly have no idea.” Meg looks a bit bemused. She lived her for ten years you’d think she’d recall something.
“It’s kinda funny, but I never thought of myself as an outdoorsy type. And yet I’ve probably done so much of that this past year than my entire life time,” Kaji says, shaking his head. “There’s not really a whole lot of wilderness and space back where I’m from. There are roads everywhere and big ol’ cities. I still can’t figure out which one Vanished Point might have been, but it’d be like that with maybe five times as many people as Vesper roaming about. Oh, and cars and stuff- you know, like the trucks the transporters drive? Except it’s not limited to delivery people. Anyone can drive ’em if they learn how and can buy a vehicle. Oh, and if they’re old enough.”
It’s a lot noisier but it’s those things you get used to. “The only real forests and stuff that I’d ever see was whenever we went to visit my grandpa out in Japan. There’s still cities and stuff there, but there’s also a lot of foresty areas and old places where they keep things the way they’ve looked for centuries.” He sighs. “I liked visiting there. I wonder how Japan is in this world…”
Megana nods. “I’ve seen more ruins than most and visions of the past and Tolkeen was bigger than Vesper but still nothing like where you were from.” The Shifter considers. “I’ve never heard of it really, saw it on some old maps a time or two, some islands I think? It’s possible they aren’t even there anymore. Maybe we can try to find out.”
It could be interesting. Or would it just be depressing? The Shifter isn’t sure really. “I love Vesper but I hate places like Dogwood. I’m usually pretty comfortable int he wilds or just.. I’m a Shifter..” Megana kinda shrugs. “The Rifts always lead somewhere and they always call to us to come explore them. It’s in my blood, or my bones. Always wanna see what else is out there.”
It would kinda suck to try going to Japan just to end up in the ocean. Kaji’s willing to believe it would still be around though. That little group of islands is a tough one! …of course here in this country the West coast and parts of the northern East coast have apparently crumbled so who knows anymore? That’s…unsettling to think about.
“I wish I could see more of Dogwood. I know you don’t like it, but. It sounds like it has things I’d be more used to. Technology and stuff, that’s like, normal to me. Magic’s more of the weird one, even if I could do it back home. Not everyone can do things like that, and even my boss didn’t always look like a dark elf.” He shrugs, sighing a bit. “So I was kinda bummed out when we got thrown in jail right off the back and all that awful stuff happened.” That’s one way to lay an impression on someone, but Kaji still couldn’t help but be curious.
“Oh. Well I. Maybe we can find somewhere similar. It’s just, they know what you look like now. And you do have magic and for them a Necromancer would be as bad as if not worse than a psychic. Let’s ask Aiden. Or maybe at the Library or some Traders. Gotta be some town like that who won’t hate us. I’ll find it.”
And maybe she can find out about Japan on her own and then if it’s favorable news, she’ll tell Kaji. “If it’s that important then we’ll just have to find some way to sneak you in for a while maybe.” Megana clearly hates that idea but.. this is obviously a thing that would mean a lot to him so it’s her job to try to make it happen she feels. “They’re only a few steps short of slaughtering anyone not human there already. If the CS is actually branching out.. they’ll breach those steps. That is my worry. But listen..”
Meg pauses looking for the right words. “What you can do is not a bad thing and you don’t use it for bad things. So don’t let it bother you. It’s what you do with your power that matters most. You’ve saved a lot of lives an the paper things are incredible.”
He tries not to make a face. That sounds like a typical parent response. But he knows Megana’s never liked Dogwood. He…probably won’t tell her about the time he snuck in with Aiden, Slaine and El to take out a couple of Harvesters who’d infiltrated the Duchess’ inner circle. But even then it wasn’t a time to sightsee. Plus, when you rip out a Harvester’s soul and it almost tries to take over- err, well, anyway.
“I know, I knooow,” Kaji sighs. He’d heard it so many times and from different people. But that’s not the part he worries about. And he’s still not convinced that it’s not totally a bad thing because there’s that draw, and he knows if he gives into it, then it really will be a bad thing.
He moves to get up from the bench, shaking out his legs before stretching out his back. Piano benches aren’t known for comfort. “I told Jeshua that. She’s scared of what she can do. She must have hurt someone with her magic, but she won’t say what, and I didn’t ask. …she also found out she can do headspeak, like Miss Suss, but she didn’t know she was able to, before.”
“Oh yeah that kid seems like a total mess. Think she might like you though. I was only so strict with her cause I’d rather not see her get killed and that girl’s got a bit of the fighting fire in her.” She is not Meg’s problem though and thank the Dark Lady for that. A baby psychic is not a thing Meg is comfortable with. And the last thing we needed hunting psyhounds is some scared but out for blood kid in the way. Think she can probably use some friends though.”
Megana stands and stretches too though she hadn’t been sitting as long. She’s got older bones darnit! …and older.. or well, more weight on them than him. She scowls a little. Nevermind all that. “Besides if they hurt you I’d havta go and kill them all. At least until they got me. So maybe we can find a middleway.”
Kaji laughs weakly. Wow, way to be blunt, Megana. “I wouldn’t say a mess? But she’s still readjusting to things from wherever it was she came from. She’s kinda like Elpida there. El was really weirded out about a lot of things in Vesper when she was first around, which you might think weird considering she’s been turned into a Gorgon?” He shrugs. “I think she’s still finding a lot of things weird around here yet. Guess she really isn’t from the same Earth as me, but she’s still from a similar time period.”
He thinks back about Jeshua as Megana continues. “Oh man, that’s right. If we’re going hunting for psyhounds then…yeah…” Aiden and Slaine would definitely need to know the new possible risks.
“That would make things pointless if you ended up killed.” He frowns. “If I get hurt, then that’s because I took a risk but I know I’m taking them. I can get better from getting hurt. You can’t get better from getting killed. And it’s dumb to get hurt just because you’re trying to take revenge. There’s always got to be a better purpose than that.”
He shakes his head before holding his hand out to her, smiling faintly. “Come on, let’s head back to Gran’s and get something to eat, huh? I think we’ve been keeping those guys from setting up here anyway,” he says as he nods towards some of the workers ambling about by the base of the stage.
Megana just smiles and takes Kaji’s hand. He’s so good to her, and for her. “You are my better purpose.
