Welcome to the Extras section. Here you’ll find everything you need to turn your character from a base level human being (or whatever he or she happens to be) to a cyborg, a psychic, a mage or – well, we’ve tried to cover a lot of bases here.
Below you’ll find each of the four categories of Extras along with some miscellaneous uncategorized things. The relevant rules for each category are in their posts along with any theme notes and of course the rules and costs for the extras themselves. Before we get to that, though, there’s some concepts we should address.
At the top of each Extras category you’ll find entries for one or more ‘Gateways’ and ‘Minor Gateways’. These represent the ‘starting points’ for the various paths to power in the Rifts world. Each Gateway or Minor Gateway provides some base level benefits but they primarily serve to ‘unlock’ a set of additional options to allow you to further refine and customize your character. You may select only one Gateway for your character and a Minor Gateway if desired. If you choose not to select a Gateway, you may have up to two Minor Gateways instead.
Please note that there are some restrictions and limitations on particular combinations. Those will be noted in the individual posts. Use of extras is entirely optional. If nothing here appeals to you or you’re not sure what you might want yet, feel free to save your refresh or spend it on stunts.
Finally please note that these lists are not meant to be exhaustive. The Rifts world is large, richly detailed and incredibly varied. Just because something doesn’t appear on our extras list doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Feel free to pitch ideas to us either before or during C-Gen. There’s a notes field on the character creation page that can be used for this purpose, you can use the stunts and extras fields if you already have ideas about how you might like it to work or you can always submit a ticket. We’ll be happy to work with you. Just make sure you have a solid idea of what you want before we start. Staff is happy to translate ideas into mechanics for you, but we’re not going to come up with ideas for you.
