Progress without justice and justice without progress lead to the same horrifying end.
Temp Worker (Spirit Shinobi)
324 (Looks 18)
Within the realm of the Underdark, not all denizens who survive in this darwinist world are evil. Many splinter groups of dark elves wished to overthrow the evil government they came from. The most promising faction was led by two dark elf twins, one a warrior prince and the other a sorcerer prince. While they were effective heroes, they were targeted for kidnapping and execution, with their punishment being the grisly fate of being combined into an artificial homunculus and forced to serve the empire.
Unfortunately for their killers, the resulting creation retained too many of their memories and vowed to honor their legacy by joining the rebellion they once led. Tion fully asserted his independence by taking the trial of the Spirit Dragon and becoming a full-fledged Spirit Shinobi despite the handicap of not having a soul. While the homunculus, Tion, was distrusted by his former comrades at first his skill in battle and the blessing of the Rebel Deity Water Dragon won them over. He was able to unite the disparate states and lead a coalition meant on smashing the dark elf empire at their power center.
Desperate, the leaders unleashed a doomsday weapon during the final campaign in hopes of turning the war. Their weapon was a Void Generator, which created localized dimensional pockets that sucked in the surroundings during their brief existence. Not only was the former empire rent into many pieces, with dynasties sent into outer space or worse, but so too was the coalition Tion led. Tion had the literal one-in-a-billion chance of being send somewhere hospital instead of into deep space or worse.
Stuck on Rifts Earth, with his nation and everyone he knew lost or worst, Tion's enthusiasm for justice and charity has barely waned. Indeed, he finds this society has much more fertile ground for his ideals than his old corrupt world. He currently supports himself through low-level wage labor (mostly online or as a temp) in between 'missions' where he punishes the corrupt and evil. Indeed, despite the difficulty getting resources, he finds his cover story useful for surprising, say, a CEO or a mafia capo with a city contract.
Homunculus Spirit Shinobi Exile
Tion is a biologically sophisticated homunculus copy and fusion of two twin Warrior Princes; one an accomplished mage, the other an accomplished warrior. While he lacks a soul, he's still a moral and charitable being who strives to do the right thing despite being thrust into a much more advanced planet. He has upheld the originals' oaths towards the Spirit Dragon, the pacts still in effect despite being transported to this new world.
Invoke: Even in highly unusual situations, virtues such as justice and mercy are timeless and should guide any interaction. Tion doesn't view being an artificial copy of a hero as a negative; considering how the previous person acted, he considers it a chance to redeem the legacy of the Spirit Dragon.
Compel: Tion's somewhat idiosyncratic sense of right-and-wrong guides everything he does. Justice, solidarity, and charity come before any other virtue, including honor, glory, purity, and the law. The first can be pursued pragmatically, but pragmatism is no excuse to neglect it.
Overly Casual with Himself and Magic
Given that he has spent centuries in a world where magic is commonplace and where someone of his body is unusual but not freaky, Tion really hasn't internalized that people distrust magic users and mutants; especially those that delve into the creepier/more dangerous arts such as demon summoning.
Invoke: Tion is doing something unusual with magic that wouldn't be apparent to most mages, such as spelling a message out of force fireworks or having a shadow puppet sing a birthday song. This also applies to situations where being a homunculus could generically help.
Compel: Tion does something that makes sense for a Spirit Shinobi concerned with justice and efficiency, but makes him look very bad to bystanders. Such as putting a demon spirit in an out-of-control mecha to stop it. Tion is even less inclined to hide the fact that he's a soulless mutant in places that REALLY dislike unusual things.
Mercy for the Stranger, Punishment for the Betrayer
Even before Tion was thrust into a strange world, as a Spirit Paladin he was tasked with meeting all kinds of new beings -- not all of them evil. One wrong move could create enmity for generations, so even when it seemed reckless Tion gave others the benefit of the doubt. Of course, for people foolish enough to take advantage of his trust, they had to be punished swiftly so that his allies wouldn't lose faith in him.
Invoke: Will always give anyone a sincere chance and whatever charity he can provide; if he doesn't know someone, it defaults to mercy. His righteousness gives him confidence and strength when dealing with strangers who haven't shown their intentions. But if it's abused...
Compel: If someone, no matter what their species, hasn't already shown themselves to be a dishonorable sot to Tion or to someone he trust then Tion will give them the benefit of the doubt if they appeal to his better nature. Similarly, he shows little mercy to unrepentant or falsely repentant creatures.
Old Mage, New Battlefield
Tion has fought in countless battles against the most eldritch and esoteric things the fantasy world can give, to the point where it's all old-hat to him. So imagine his shock at seeing the wonders of the new era.
Invoke: Coming from a world in which everything important was done by magic, Tion is not only familiar with the classical fantasy opposition but shows a lack of concern for the boundaries between magic and technology, especially technomagic.
Compel: Tion isn't used to the more esoteric superpowers and effects that can exist even outside his heavily magical world. Effects with an explicitly post-Atomic Age technological origin cause him to hesitate and stumble when they start working against him.
Minor Gateway: Dimensional Being [Homunculus] (2)
Tion is unusual even for an artificial being, let alone an elf. He's a copy of not one, but two dark elves who were twins. He resembles a fusion of each of them, most apparent in his internal organs. On the outside, he just has four arms and two tongues. Not only is his resilience greatly enhanced just with this physical arrangement, but his body itself is enchanted with magical enhancements. Despite the fact that he does not have a soul, this doesn't seem to have impacted his behavior any. Tion is just as kind and empathetic as any other person.
Greater Physicality (2)
Despite not looking hugely different from a dark elf on the outside, as a homunculus his body is many times stronger than either or both of his originals.
Mental Fortitude (1)
In one of the few areas where not having a soul gives Tion an advantage, he's resistant to the horrors and mental fatigue that even typical dark elves are inured to. Having a frontal lobe twice as dense with an amygdala of the same strength helps.
Inhuman Potential [Arcana] (1)
In addition to being crafted to be physically superior to most dark elves, Tion's designers intentionally aligned his chakra and aura to maximize his potential Arcane ability.
Major Gateway: Mage [Mystic] (1)
Tion’s three main Purviews are Arcane Fundamentals, Electrokinesis, and Elementalism (Air). No doubt an unusual combination for someone of Tion’s mentality to know, but the Warrior Prince he was cloned from used such magic. More to the point, Tion discovered that Elementalism (Air) was useful for subduing large numbers of opponents without hurting them.
Arcane Purview [Arcane Fundamentals] (0)
Arcane Purview [Air Elementalism] (0)
Arcane Mastery [Elementalism (Air)] (1)
Some mages either have a natural talent or a long history with a particular purview. They tend to have a wider range of spells within that Purview and know how to get more out of them. Being from the dark elves, Tion feels most comfortable with spells in the Elementalism (Air) purview. Thus Tion has +2 Arcana when using effects in this Purview.
Psychic Purview [Elecktrokinesis] (0)
Arcane Purview [Blessing] (1)
In addition to his basic education, Tion has a number of blessings courtesy of his devotion to the Shadow Dragon.
Racial Quirk: Dance of the Shadow Dragon (0)
A combination of blessings, shadow magic, and personal alacrity makes Tion almost maddeningly hard to strike in close-range combat. Tion can use Arcana in place of Athletics to defend against attacks in his zone. Using Arcana in this way does not require exotic stress when used without special casting.
Racial Quirk: Metamagic [Persistent Spell] (0)
Spells cast by this Spirit Shinobi seem to cling tenaciously onto this world, even when they would otherwise be resisted. When you succeed with style on an Arcana check, you can forgo the additional boost/invoke to inflict a minor consequence.
Racial Quirk: Metamagic [Quicken Spell] (0)
When need be, Tion can cast quickly. Very quickly. So quickly that people don't notice that there's spectral lance hiding in the shadow of a ball of light. Once per scene, stack an additional free invoke on an aspect you've created with Arcana. Rename the aspect to reflect the additional spell.
Some partied too hard and now nurse hangovers in the warmth of Gran's inn. Others come for the warmth itself, for news, for deliveries and good food.
The problem with the creepy dolls only gets worse as circumstances so helpfully present themselves during preparations for year-closing festivities.
Aiden, Slaine, Tion and Kaji head out towards the mountains now that they have a destination set, and while they do locate the Coalition forces, their mission objective changes slightly.
