Ragabash Devilry was born in a leper colony, a religious commune dedicated to the prospect of sacrificing and suffering of the body in service to the Lord. Drenched in ancient Puritan traditions (hence the naming conventions), his parents taught him to be loyal, pious, humble and to suffer along with them. He was infected young and, by the age of sixteen, had lost an eye and most of an arm to the disease. But he didn't suffer happily or willingly. When members of the community turned sixteen, they were offered a chance to leave and go out into the sinful world. It was meant to be a ritual, a coming of age, in which they would reconfirm their commitment to the faith and seal away the outside world for good.
Rags was the first one to actually take them up on the offer and leave.
In the world outside, he did whatever he could do to earn money and fix himself. The people beyond the walls were impossible, perfected things, every blemish wiped away with lasers, every illness cured. They regarded him as disgusting - he hated them right back even as he burned with envy. The cybernetics he could afford, to replace his eye and his arm, were obvious, almost clunky, although they seemed like miracles to him. He discovered a lethal capacity for violence and turned it towards making money as a bounty hunter.
When one of his marks ended up fleeing through a dimensional portal, Rags followed. Here, in this new world, he's lost track of that particular target but found another. Along the way, he takes whatever jobs he can, kills anyone who gets in his way and keeps the hate boiling in his heart.
