Guild House Trent has been a part of Dogwood’s Corporate scene for the better part of a hundred years. In that time they’ve made a name for themselves in the cybernetics and projected force fields, producing a variety of useful military and non-military goods for trade, for their fellow Guilds and for the estates and towns of nobility. Populated by curious - some would say maverick - researchers and builders and led by a set of visionary Baronets, Guild House Trent pushed the envelope of the possible. They were always looking for the next break through, the better way to do things. Their engineers improved on old designs and produced some of the first new designs to come out of Dogwood since the onset of the Dark Age.
All of that changed with the Incident.
Rumors say that there was an explosion and gouts of sapphire blue and emerald green shot high into the sky. All official reports on the matter say was that an industrial accident occurred late in the evening when Baronet Connor Trent was inspecting a new project. The Baronet himself miraculously survived. Most of the personnel and equipment in the facility with him were not nearly so lucky.
To say that this was a blow to the family’s assets and finances would be a gross understatement. The accident cost the Guild House many of their best minds and gutted their primary production facility to the point where resuming business was simply not possible, at least in the medium term. To make matters worse, Connor - while physically in decent shape all things considered - had been incapacitated by the accident and the scope of the Guild’s losses. Some rumors say that he’s been out of sorts and acting strangely. While the doctors at the Queen Estelle hospital assured his children - Jericho and Gabrielle - that he would recover his incapacity came at a bad time. Corporate class politics can be quite cutthoat and the suited sharks were already starting to circle.
To prevent a hostile takeover - some flavors of which are more hostile than others - Jericho Trent in his capacity as Guild Factor took the highly unusual step of announcing recently that he will be moving many of the Guild House’s remaining assets and bannermen - seventy percent by some counts - out of the city of Dogwood and pivoting to a new business model.
It’s a clever move, most agree. It’s immensely complicated by the fact that Jericho is not the Baronet, even though he is at present leading the Guild House. For now, though, it’s working.
How long that will last remains to be seen.
Self Exiled Frontier Factor
Jericho’s Guild House is in trouble and Jericho himself has resorted to some extreme and unusual means to preserve it. While his sister is keeping an eye on his father and helping keep up appearances in the Baron’s Court and with the Crown, he’s trying to rebuild the family’s power base in a deeply unsafe part of the nation.
Invoke: To leverage Jericho’s acumen, contacts and talents in his efforts to recruit allies, rebuild his Guild House and preserve their charter.
Compel: For Guild House Trent’s rivals to make plays at inopportune moments and for the dangerous nature of life out on the frontier to throw wrenches into the works.
It might be necessary but it isn’t pretty. Jericho has usurped a great deal of his father’s authority in order to do what he feels needs to be done and in so doing he’s pushed Connor out of a lot. That presents all kinds of problems from paperwork issues to legal issues to potential family issues.
Invoke: To make use of Jericho’s authority within his own Guild House both with his own bannermen and with rivals and potential allies.
Compel: For resistance and political maneuvering to complicate things. For Jericho’s father and his father’s supporters to challenge him and for his reputation and de-facto leader status to cast a pall over his dealings or his Guild’s business.
Thicker Than Water
Jericho and his younger sister Gabrielle are close and they always have been. The two work well together. She’s a clever, outspoken, opinionated and driven. She backed her brother’s quiet takeover of Guild House affairs and his radical plan to relocate the Guild’s assets. Now she is the family’s main face in Dogwood and her brother’s eyes and ears. Officially she’s there to assist her father. Unofficially she’s there to watch him while the Guild tries to pick up the pieces of their old production operation. Gabrielle is her own woman and she’s not shy about letting her brother know when she thinks he’s wrong. Moreover, she’s in an awkward situation and has even less to work with than Jericho in some ways which could backfire on her spectacularly especially with her tell it like it is attitude. It hasn’t yet. But the risk is very real.
Invoke: Jericho and Gabrielle are quite close and they always have been. To enlist his sister’s assistance, or when assisting or aiding her in any way.
Compel: For Gabby to disagree with her brother, decide to do things her own way or get in enough trouble that Jericho feels the need to get involved. Gabby would be wonderful leverage against Jericho if anyone ever decided to go that route.
The Last of Us
Jericho has taken charge of most of what’s left of Guild House Trent for the present. While that’s less than it has been - much less - it’s a lot more than most of the lower classes could ever dream of. In theory all of these resources are at his command. In practice nearly all of them have to go into rebuilding the Guild’s economic base or Jericho’s grip on the Guild - and possible the Guild itself - will be short lived.
Invoke: For Jericho to bring the resources of his Guild House to bear on a problem, to take care of his people and to lead, comfort or rally those who answer to him or look to him.
Compel: For there to be dissension in the ranks, unexpected problems, resource shortages and pressing business or issues that simply will not wait.
Policy By Other Means
Jericho is no stranger to conflict. Most of the conflict he’s used to is economic but far from all of it. He’s been involved in protecting his Guild House’s assets from caravan raiders in the past and he has a moderate reputation as a duelist on those occasions where something more formal has been required. He’s not what anyone is going to call an experienced fighter - especially not compared to many of the nobility - but he’s seen enough action that he can be considered ‘blooded’ and he’s not averse to using ‘other means when he thinks they’re necessary.
Invoke: To leverage his skill at small scale combat or his reputation as a scrapper in his favor. After all, sometimes the best fight is the one you don’t have to fight.
Compel: Having a reputation as a fighter means that people prepare for that possibility. Some might seek to goad him into taking unwise actions or he might have to deal with someone’s star duelist. Being willing to ‘go to the mattress’ also means that people are apt to be be preemptive when considering moving in a direction he might oppose and some Corporate and Noble types see it as ‘uncouth’ on top of all that.
Minor Gateway: Augmentic Implants (Cost 1)
Jericho never suffers increased difficulty or penalties on Shoot or Athletics rolls due to lack of proper tools or inclement conditions.
Micro Field Generator (Cost 1)
A small implanted force field generator activates with mental stress. May gain armor 5 for a scene for 1 mental stress or Armor 4 for the scene for 2 mental stress. Either option adds +1 to worn armor (but not powered armor or similar systems).
Minor Gateway: RPA Basic (Cost 1)
Jericho may use Drive to pilot powered armor and robots.
Sentinel Mark I (Cost 4)
Armor 3, Weapon 2 unarmed fight attacks, +2 physique for overcome actions requiring raw strength. Head: Environmental Scanning Suite: Notice 4 Torso: Heavy Duty Gyro Stabilization: Drive 3/Stealth 1 Back: Power Field Generator: Can absorb 2 stress from an attack so long as an aspect like ‘Power Fields Charged’ is on the Sentinel. This aspect can be invoked to absorb 4 stress, after which it is consumed. Any such aspects can be removed by opponents as normal. Left Arm: Stormsword - Weapon 4 Fight Attacks Right Arm: Twin Rotary Mass Driver Cannon - Weapon 5 or Weapon 4 Spray Legs: Redundant Power Routing Systems - +2 to create advantages using Drive when jumping, leaping or changing elevation.
