"Immortality... now there's an achievement."
Cyber-Doc for Guild House Tolliver
Cassian Tolliver is a member of Guild House Tolliver of Dogwood - a House very much known for producing experts in medicine, cyber-technology, and various other specialists. While being well-respected, the House is not without its skeletons in the closet, or its demons in the basement.
Rumours have always existed of Tollivers circumventing the rules, taking risks, dealing 'under the table' so to speak, and other such things. Tollivers are known for their pursuit of knowledge and perfection - to an extreme.
This has been especially true of Cassian Tolliver.
As a young man, he proved almost frightfully adept at medicine and cybernetics, treating every problem as a puzzle which he just had to solve. He would gladly venture from the relatively safe borders of the city into the wider world, putting himself at risk - and all for the sake of the 'next breakthrough'. It drew the attention of some of the Noble Houses, who paid Tolliver handsomely for his skill-set. It also drew the attention of others with less... friendly intentions.
This cost him dearly.
An 'accident' (in the form of an explosion) while visiting colleagues of his very nearly cost Tolliver his life. The only thing that saved him was a full cybernetic conversion - replacing most of his body parts with technological prosthetics. He did not mind at all. As to the cause of the 'accident', it was never determined. There were no arrests.
Tolliver has only recently recovered from his injuries, and is hellbent on finding out what had happened to him, as well as enjoying the upgrades.
Sociopathic Cyborg Cyber-Doc of House Tolliver
Guild House Tolliver is an old Guild of Dogwood with English origins, and is one of the leading providers of medical care -- both 'cyber-docs' and 'body-fixers'. Cyber-Doc Tolliver travels where he has to, installing and maintaining cybernetic implants, and full cyborg conversions (like his own). Rumour has it he has broken the rules more than once.
Invoke: In any situation where Doc's medical or cybernetic expertise applies, or his penchant for 'breaking boundaries' earns him notoriety. Also, when mingling with the Noble and Guild Houses of Dogwood, and those who respect his profession.
Compel: When dealing with those in direction competition to him, or when in magic-heavy areas that eschew cyber-tech -- or when his own cybernetics fail him -- or should 'House politics' cause issues.
Quite the Sociopath
Doc Tolliver is 'more machine than man' and it show in his demeanour. He can be cold, calculating, brusque -- even outright heartless. He is very good at what he does, but his bedside manner is terrible. Sometimes people like the cold, hard facts -- most of the time... they don't.
Invoke: Whenever a situation calls for a cold-blooded approach.
Compel: Anytime the 'cold-blooded approach' offends someone, or Doc's difficulty with emotions makes it hard to understand people, or form friendships etc, anytime being 'more machine' makes it difficult to love or be loved in return.
Many Hands Make Light Work
Doc Tolliver is a 'fully converted' cyborg -- with some further enhancements. He is, more or less, a human head situated atop a fully cybernetic body... with an extra pair of arms. He cannot generally pass for 'human' in most cases (and the other arms can be offputting), but they do come in handy.
Invoke: Whenever a situation calls for an 'extra set of hands', such as a complicated surgery/conversion, or even surprising an attacker.
Compel: Whenever his extra arms cause problems with other people (who might find it disconcerting, or who discriminate against 'borgs), whenever there is a malfunction, or he is around magic that interferes with his cybernetics.
Can't Resist a Puzzle
Doc Tolliver is notorious for being unable to resist a challenge (particularly a cerebral or technical challenge). He finds other aspects of life... boring. He will go almost anywhere, brave almost anything if it means he can solve a mystery of some kind.
Invoke: Anytime there are 'mind games' to be played, mysteries to solve, medical and cybernetic obstacles and challenges to overcome.
Compel: Whenever a challenge or puzzle conflicts with other interests, such as the interests of his colleagues and peers, whenever he becomes too focused on his work rather than everything else, whenever a challenge is actually the bait, luring him into a trap.
Major Gateway: Augmented Cyborg
Doc is something like a human head upon a cybernetic body. Armor 5, Additional 4 stress box, +2 Strength to Overcome with Physique using raw strength Physique cap increased to 6.
A standard IR, UV, Thermal optics package common to cybernetic eyes. You take no penalties to any kind of roll relating to the ambient lighting. Additionally you may use this Extra as justification to see things that you otherwise could not see provided doing so makes sense within the context of the scene.
Neural Interface Suite
You have the ability to interface directly with suitably equipped computers. Provided the vehicle has a Neural Port or similar interface, you gains a +2 to operate that computer for whatever functions it performs and never suffers a penalty for being unfamiliar with the systems in question while linked.
You are a ‘Total Conversion’ Cyborg: a mortal brain, a few vital organs and possibly a face housed inside an entirely mechanical body. This gives an additional 5 stress box and +1 Armor that stacks with other cyborg chain armor extras but does not stack with worn armor. Note, Total Conversions may or may not be able to pass for normal depending on the parts used in the conversion and the purpose of it.
Inhumanoid Body Styling
Doc Tolliver has an extra pair of arms, much like his 'normal' arms, connected at the rib-cage. Inhumanoid Body Styling functions as another Aspect of your character that may be invoked whenever the unusual body confers advantages and compelled whenever it is problematic.
Lore Specialist: Cyber-Doc
You get a +2 to all Lore rolls relating to that field of specialization. Cyber-Docs are like regular Docs (A.K.A. 'Body-Fixers') except they specialise in cybernetic implants and prosthetics.
The Power of Deduction
Once per scene you can spend a fate point (and a few minutes of observation) to make a special Investigate roll representing your potent deductive faculties. For each shift you make on this roll you discover or create an aspect, on either the scene or the target of your observations, though you may only invoke one of them for free.
Cyber-Doctor Cassian Tolliver pays a visit to his friend, Natsuki, in House Taniguchi after recovering from an 'accident' that turned him into the cyborg he is today. Both have a great deal to share regarding current affairs in Dogwood and beyond...
