"Did you SEE that? Whoa!"
So, I'm the freaking Terminator.
Well, not /really/. And I don't have any compulsion to find and kill anyone named Sarah or John at the moment. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me dial back to when I was an ordinary college student on a world called Earth. Yeah, like this one, except not this one. DEFINITELY not this one. We didn't have the dragons or the giant gaping holes in reality or well dressed naz-...actually, scratch that. We definitely had well dressed, 'dapper' Nazis, unfortunately so that's one thing we still have in common.
But let's get back to the story, here, actually. I was minding my own business, driving cross country to visit the relatives, when the next thing I knew I was seeing these lights and this.../tear/ ahead of me. Then everything went dark. It's hard to describe. I was aware, but I felt.. disconnected. It's like I imagined being in a sensory deprivation tank to be, but there wasn't even a heartbeat.
There was a presence. Not a voice. A feeling, more, and an overwhelming compulsion, like water erasing me bit by bit, sanding me down until there was nothing left but clay to be shaped by them. They were Observers and they had no use for me, but they did have use for Unit Designate 977, as my mind could understand it. I had purpose, now, even as I fought against it with everything I had. I could feel myself slipping, my conception of who I was being erased little by little. And then...
And then, next thing I knew, I was amongst a bunch of smouldering ruins and I was running, running faster than any human could run, to get out of there as fast as I could while I was still me in some tangile, recognizable way to myself. The body is new and made of metal and alloys and god-knows-what, but I'd never felt such power.
So, that's how I found myself here. Naked. That was awkward. Fortunately, I was taken in by a kindly older man who lived on the outskirts of what he called Dogwood. From there, I was able to get it together that I wasn't in Kansas anymore (but still in America, apparently a very awful in part Nazified future America which was overrun with a staggering amount of horrors of which I have a compulsion to learn about -- fuck you programming -- ) and that it was a lot of years in the future. My future or a future, it didn't matter. It was where I was.
Well, as they say on the internet, 'this is my life now'.
So I made the best of it. I've done odd jobs around Dogwood, worked the farms here and there as a day laborer, answered the jobs boards where I can. It's not that I could be doing more, it's that I don't /want/ to. I want... a certain degree of normalcy, in as such can be said to exist. I don't know for sure how much of that is me and how much of that is the programming they stuck in my head but I want it all the same. Just how long can I put up the front before the weirdness comes calling?
Robot in Disguise
Dice is fully synthetic life form with an bio engineered flesh covering. She bleeds when cut, simulates breathing, can consume food and more, all for the sake of passing as normal to the basic eye.
Invoke: Being a robot, Dice has none of the human frailities, physically anyway, that come with being biological and numerous strengths analagous to other robots and borgs. She is strong, fast, and is incredibly durable..
Compel: Unfortuantely, even the best disguise isn't perfect and there are still tells that can be noticed and unsettle people. Naturally, certain kinds of scanners will automatically reveal her as a robot beneath her fleshy exterior and she's heavier than she looks. Should her flesh-exterior ever be significantly compromised, her robotness will be plain to see until the tissue can regenerate. There are also always going to be those who will want the technology that comprises her for themselves or to sell to others who will want to get their hands on advanced and alien robotics technology. And while she has various analyzers that do their best to replicate human senses in such a way as that the human mind can process them, there are details she may miss that a human may pick up on as a result.
The unit designated Probe 977 is an advanced model unit created by an extra-dimensional and incredibly alien race which uses conditioned transferred intellects such as Dice to probe the multiverse and report back to them. Probe 977 escaped before her conditioning was complete due to their scout craft entering Rifts earth and discovering, rapidly, just how terrible it is. Some of it did take hold, however, and she has various compulsions and progamming related to it. While she is aware of this, she is unsure how much of it there is. As a result of her nature, she comes equipped with a wide variety of sensors designed to analyze a great many different things, ranging from chemical compositions in the air or what sort of paint comprises a painting as well as translating languages, deciphering codes and more.
Invoke: Probe 977 comes equpped with a highly advanced set of sensors that make her incredibly good at picking out details and knowing about things that others might miss easily. She has a purpose that was she was built to and she does it well. This often gives her a leg up on sensing approaching trouble.
Compel: Probe 977 carries within her a great many psychically placed compulsions. Compulions to know, to learn, to see, to understand. These compulsions often run counter to her own desires of privacy, solitude, and quiet. She finds herself sneaking into trouble more often than she'd like, and her noseyness can be a SERIOUS turn off to anyone wanting to be friends with her. Of course, had the programming and conditioning taken hold properly, there would be no conflict here.
A Normal Life
Part of it is programming. Dice is designed to be unobtrusive and fade into the background. Part of is a coping mechanism to deal with the trauam of her creation. More than anthing else, Dice wants to be /normal/, or at least ot live something approximating a normal life.
Invoke: Dice puts a lot of work into appearing to be normal, as normal as she can be, and this can give her a leg up on passing for just that when someone might otherwise be suspicious of her or think she's up to no good. Espcially when she IS up to no good.
Compel: Unfortunately, this can make her reluctant to take chances on revealing herself. She might rely on a far more complicated or roundabout way to achieve a goal, too, when sufficient application of robotic prowess might suffice. After all, you never know who's watching. This can also cause her to hesitate at a crucial time.
Actually A Robot (Gateway)
Dice is actually a robot. She has absolutely not biological parts whatsoever and an internal casing that houses her intellect deep within her well armored chest cavity. Treating this as the 'Total Conversion' bit', though she also is completely immune to all maladies that would impact biologics in a way that even conversions are not. - This is considered to be the Major Cyborg Gateway
Transferred Intellect (Total Conversion)
Dice is a living psionic essence placed inside a machine. As a result, she actually does have a (very) small trace remannt of PPE. Her essence is contained in a small, heavily armored casing in her chest cavity. Treat as a total conversion Borg.
Dice has a huge array of senses available to her. Radar, sonar, visible light across the spectrum, and programming to analyze and distill the information into bite-sized bits she can comprehend. Activating her suite ought to give her a +2 to investigate and notice rolls based on sight and hearing.
When you can analyze a person's behavior, replay it, and observe again and again, you get really good at discerning truth from lies and lying yourself. +2 to Empathy when defending against deceive attempts in person.
Neural Interface Suite
You have the ability to interface directly with suitably equipped computers. Provided the vehicle has a Neural Port or similar interface, you gains a +2 to operate that computer for whatever functions it performs and never suffers a penalty for being unfamiliar with the systems in question while linked. (Cost 1)
Dice is really good at getting along with people given that she's capable of analyizing the immediate impact of her words down to reading minute facial tics, slight pulse rate increases and more. This makes her uncannily good at telling people what they want to hear and understanding what it is they're looking for. +2 to overcome rolls using Rapport when attempting to impress someone or overcome negative preconceptions provided Dice is able to interact with them in person for at least a few minutes
Not At All Random Access Memory
Dice's memory is backed up digitically on her onboard computer, allowing her to access anything she's seen or heard as well as upload it digitically to other sources. She is a living surveillance system.
Being a surveillance system sometimes means needing to be in the right place at the right time. Her body is designed with this in mind, it's mechanics and bits and bobs fully aimed for speed and agility. You gain +2 to Athletics overcome rolls to bypass obstacles to movement , +2 to Athletics create advantage rolls relating to acrobatic movement or extreme agility and may move 2 zones during a conflict along with your action instead of the usual one.
With concerns of demons coming down from the mountains soon, Jericho and Natsuki gather trusted associates to talk of preparation.
