The borders of the Arcane Republic of Vesper and It’s Dependencies run from just south of the outskirts of old Richmond along the reshaped coastline down to the Roanoke river in the south then along north side of the river and the lakes that feed it west to the remains of South Boston. From there the frontier heads north in a rough line connecting the remains of South Boston, Farmville and James River which forms the border with Dogwood. With the exception of the Dogwood Border these frontiers are rarely so neatly drawn as they look on the map, but the further one gets from those lines, the less control the Republic exerts and the less protection it can afford its citizens.
Within those borders are miles of rolling hills and thick forests dotted with towns, villages, logging camps, mines and quarries and crisscrossed with small ley lines. Along the James River for several miles along the south side there are farms and small fishing villages with little harbors populate the coastline. Some of the townships closer to the south trade year round with the trappers and tribesmen from the untamed region known as Dinosaur Swamp.
As far as notable locations go, the town of Picket is built upon the remains of a pre-rifts military base about forty odd miles west of Vesper. It contains about thirteen thousand souls of which about a third are military personnel – the only permanently maintained professional military force outside the city itself – and the rest of which are family members and civilians which service the base.
Corin’s Crossing, on the other hand, is a small settlement on the banks of the Roanoke River. Most of the year it has a population of only four to five hundred and it’s less a town than a more or less permanent base camp for trappers headed south into the Dinosaur Swamp. Every winter, though, it sees an influx of tribesmen headed north to trade in Vesper and does pretty brisk business itself.
